GDT Week 1: SEA @ DEN

Brief takeaways:

It's hard not to be impressed with the overall talent level of this team. Can't make so many stupid mistakes though, a good team beats us playing like this. But I'm still more encouraged than discouraged, Keenum will figure out that he still needs to complement the defense even if there are big plays to be had. In this game, we win going away if he just takes what they give him.

Great to get a win. So much to work on and some worrying signs, but a win is a win.

The good:

Skill positions looked good

Line appears to be solid

Pass rush is elite

McManus appears to be back

The bad:

Keenum only has to avoid turnovers but failed to do so

Still can’t cover TEs and RBs

Chubb on the Harris sack pushed Duane Brown into Russell’s grill

helluva day for our rookie. Too bad they don't count assists in the box score. He'd have had a couple.

I really liked his move on Von's sack.

Short takes:

  • RIP No Fly Zone
  • we still can’t cover TE’s and RB’s
  • we have a hell of a pass rush
  • Chubb played well, should get an assist on a couple of those sacks.
  • surprised to see Lindsay play such a big role
  • pass pro was solid
  • run blocking seemed meh
  • Rookies overall really impressed
  • Too many stupid mistakes that cost us drives, stops. Still would like to see them better prepared.
  • Special Teams seemed markedly better.
  • Keenum. Oh my.  The only strength he was supposed to bring, make smart decisions and take care of the ball - Fail.
  • By the third pick, he was spooked - lost his confidence- and so were the coaches.
  • A Win is a Win, but if Keenum doesn’t improve markedly, particularly in taking care of the ball - it could be another long season.

Chubb's first game was a nice learning experience. Got really picked on covering TEs early (that first TD is a move undefeated against rookie 3-4 OLBs when they first see it - glad he saw it immediately), found his groove vs. the run and by the fourth quarter started getting loose as a pass rusher. He's swimming right now but physically he already looks like an NFL veteran out there. He is doing some dirty work to free up other rushers right now too.

So impressed with Pacman after a week and a half really taking Brock's job and pitching what seemed to be a shutout in coverage. Feel a lot better with Pacman as the nickel than Brock, but knowing we have at least one playable depth guy in Brock is also comforting.
