Not playing for the Browns anymore and going to arguably the best organization in football could cure that. Then again, it might not. Time will tell but it absolutely was worth the gamble.

That’s what we thought when the Browns drafted him.

Just like that’s what Utah though when they accepted him as a transfer.

Similarly to what Baylor thought when they recruited him, even though he was smoking weed and taking Xanax since middle school.

Dude has been doing dumb ish for a decade, long before the Browns.

Playing for the Browns wasn’t an issue for Gordon. Hell if it wasn’t for the Browns he prolly be Blackmon and out of the league. Browns didn’t fail Gordon, Gordon failed the Browns and so far himself. Browns gave him chance after chance after chance. Hell the browns could of been real ball busters and could have really screwed over Gordon for not reporting to camp on time and costing him an accured year towards his Free agency. Which would have made him an ERFA yet against and make him accept whatever contract they offered him next offseason. Dorsey and the Browns treated him like a professional, he didn’t deserve it but they did. They showed good faith in him and expected josh to do the same but he didn’t.

Dorsey is changing the perception of the browns, what he has done for Gordon is an example. Did everything that is right for Gordon but if you screw up outside of your once chance, you will be gone.

Dude doesn’t like playing football, he just likes what football provides him. Pats fans will realize that. Specially when he starts to run lazy routes, gives up on tough passes at times, and just runs the wrong routes and never cared about correcting it. He isn’t a master of his craft and he is going to an organization that demands that from all their players. The minute they start to be bigger than the sun and goals changed compared to what the team wants. Those players are removed. A la Collins.

What was the final straw?

Why hold onto him this long to let him go now?

i think adding with his training camp issue, Dorsey prolly said he was basically done with him. Also believe he was late to other meetings prior to this as well. doing stupid things like this right before a game and saying you can’t play because he hurt his hammy during his event Friday is what killed him. Rumors were they made Gordon get an MRI on the hammy and nothing came from it. Finally the straw broke  the Camels back.  Also believe Dee and Jimmy Haslam were done with him. They tried so hard to help and him showing no respect back to them and the team with his training camp and what just happened, they prolly gave Dorsey the ok to ship his arse  out of here

It's not a "risky" move for the Pats per-sé but this is definitely going to challenge the effectiveness of "The Patriot Way". They've never brought in a guy with the kind of substance abuse issues Gordon has had.

The rest of the league is hoping Gordon will bring some of "The Browns Way" to New England so it can rub off on the Patriots.  ;)

Previous CLE Gm's have given Gordon multiple chances.  New GM was probably giving him 1 last chance and when that was breached, he was gone.  Trying to change the culture of the organization may cost them a potentially talented player like Gordon, but there are playing the long game with the remaining 52 players on the roster....now 51 with Gonzalez being cut.

Don’t care how talented Gordon is. Talent doesn’t mean squat when he isn’t on the field. Dude injured himself less than 48hours before a game cause he was filming a commercial/promo and wanted to race a drone or something like that.

You cant fix stupid... that’s exatly what Gordon is. How does he follow up getting hurt, he comes late to the meeting the following day and tells the team he can’t play cause he hurt his hammy. Rumors come out that they made him get an MRI and that nothing was wrong with it

That was a terrible decision by the Browns to get rid of him especially for so little.  Even if he makes dumb decisions his talent outweighs the negatives.  If the aren’t able to get Dez Bryant than this decision is going to look even more dumb.

So little? Prettty sure the pats 5th rd pick was the best offer.

Again talent doesn’t mean squat when the guy doesn’t see the field. His stunts this year could say costed the browns two wins. No training camp lead to him having very little chemistry with Tyrod. So during the Steelers game, Tyrod rarely went his way but went towards Jarvis. Then you could maybe think the browns beat the Saints if they have Gordon on the field but he was ruled out for the game because the dude is a moron and hurt himself shooting a freaking commercial/promo for his F’ing clothing line 48hours before the game.

You cant fix stupid.

first suspension as a pro player was supposedly he didn’t know he had to report codiene to the league office cause he was supposedly sick in the offseason...stupid

another suspension was because he said he didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to drink alcohol yet...stupid

another suspension was because he tested positive for weed but blamed it on second hand smoke

it was well past due for the browns to cut ways with him

My point is that 5th round picks are worth next to nothing and the Browns should’ve just kept Josh Gordon if that’s all they could get.   As long as he isn’t suspended then keep him and play him because even though he makes some dumb choices he is still an elite player when he’s on the field.  He’s on a very cheap contract so there are no cap benefits from letting him go.  If he plays great, but if something happens and he can’t play then it is what it is.  He is 10x more talented than any other 5th/6th WR that could be inactive on game day anyways so if he can’t play one week then that sucks, but if he can play then you significantly increase your chances of winning.

Just for clarity, and MRI will show tears so if it was a pull, it would come back negative.

There is no need to keep him. He ran his course and wasn’t wanted. Also reports are coming out that some teammates were getting fed up with him. With him missing camp and coming to some meetings late.

He has elite ability and was elite on ‘13 but the games following that, I thknk it’s 10, he was only maybe elite in 2. The dude was also running lazy routes and not even running correct routes. How can the QB get you the ball if he can’t trust you or know where you will be on a passing pattern.

Again I’m Theory that makes senses. But you make guy like Gordon do things like that, he prolly will become even more cancerous. Dorsey wants to change the culture of the team. Keeping Gordon around with the way he is acting with his track record isn’t worth it.

gordon wasn’t worth keeping around anymore. Browns did everything for him and Gordon failed them. Time to just cut your loses.

I just find it odd that CLE fans and even other NFL people keep saying how Dorsey "is trying to build a strong locker room by cutting ties with guys like Gordon".

I mean did he not draft Tyreke Hill? And then in CLE in his 1st year as GM also drafted Antonio Callaway.... Who as we saw on Hard Knocks, literally sat there and lied to Dorsey and Hue Jackson's faces about that whole incident with the marijuana at 3 am. And if Dorsey did believe Calloway's defense that "he was NOT aware of marijuana being in his car" even though its his freaking car and the cop literally first thing says to Callaway that he smelled weed from the car, then Dorsey is just an idiot and not a hypocrite. Maybe hes even both.

I mean lets not even talk about how he is allowing Gregg Williams to coach on that team. That alone is egregious. The guy should have been banned from coaching in the NFL. And he literally, on camera, is seen telling his players to hit his own teams QB in practice and pretty much acting like a psychopath.

I mean, Dorsey is 100% a hypocrite by cutting Gordon (even if it was a trade) the way he did. It wasnt just about his hamstring. It was also because the team's staff thought Gordon seemed like he wasnt himself (old person speak for "Youre high on drugs). So then why not let him take a Drug Test and find out? This guy has been rehabbing with sobriety for a long time. Dorsey's team and Head Coach put a LOT of time and energy into Gordon. So axing him in this way seems like a moronic, hypocritical, and ego-driven move by Dorsey.

And its a terrific move by the Pats. Not only for getting a talent like Gordon, who is in his prime and healthy and has no pending suspensions, for a measly FIFTH ROUND PICK?! And lets not forget how NE also have him under contract at 700k this year and then get him as a RFA the following year. And that if Gordon doesnt play 10 games this year, they get back a 7th rounder.

I have to imagine Belichick and McDaniels are in an office right now drinking whiskey and clanging glasses while laughing at how they just got away with the NFL equivalent of stealing millions of dollars from a bank and never being caught.
