NFL General Random Thoughts Thread

The Bob McNair Thread was locked in News, and I tried to stay out of the non-football talk (not too successful, at that) but I did want to share this post in the Texans' forum, which actually shares my thoughts very well:

I certainly have plenty of issues with McNair's politics, the source of his fortune, and plenty of ownership/business decisions over the course of 18 years, but I could say the same about plenty of people seated around my Thanksgiving table each year, and I still care for them.  Bob wasn't the saint he'll be made out to be over the next few days, but we all deserve to be celebrated for the good we brought to this world in our time here and Bob bringing football back to Houston personally enriched my life in enumerable ways for which I will always be thankful.  Every billionaire is lauded for their charitable efforts, but anyone like me who has had family members who wouldn't have been with us this Thanksgiving without the cutting edge medicine that happens at the Houston Med Center owes McNair some gratitude as his contributions went far beyond slapping his name on things, write offs, and photo ops as he was committed to using his fortune to make people's lives better.  He deserves to have his life honored as it was a truly amazing success story and unlike a certain former football team owner who's team may be coming to town this week, he seemed to be beloved by most who dealt with him on a personal level and he leaves an ownership and personal legacy we can take pride in as a city and fanbase even if we don't support some of the words or positions attributed to him.  In the grand scheme it's a trivial thing, but I'm glad he got to see his team rip off a 7 game win streak and be in first place and am hopeful we can continue to have improbable good fortune which seems an apt way to honor a man who certainly did plenty in life to make many of his "lucky breaks" happen.

That is pretty absurd, 0-37!? Although I wish we knew how many of those deficits were actually manageable, or rather something you would expect even a great QB to overcome... I mean since we're already exclusively looking at good teams, I bet in ~20 of those 37 4th quarters he was dealing with double digit deficits. Regardless, that's gonna be a lot of opportunities with no Ws to show for it. Reminds me of that stat regarding Stafford's record against winning teams, for awhile there he was like 0-20 against them on the road? Something like that.

Also winning record at the time, or teams that finished the year with winning record? I'm guessing the former, which would discount any early season comebacks against good teams that just had slow starts.

Seattle at 6-5 has a decent shot to make the playoffs after everyone wrote them off when the season started. They have five games left, with four of them at home amazingly. The only road game is against the 49ers.

49ers, Vikings, at 49ers, Chiefs, Cardinals.

Seattle is probably favored in all of those except on the road at the Chiefs. Getting one of the two wild cards will be tough, but the Redskins are probably going to fade down the stretch without Alex Smith. Panthers will be in the mix, but at least Seattle has the tiebreaker. I don't think the Packers or Eagles are making a run. Vikings are the biggest threat now, but their schedule is rough to close out the year.

If Wilson gets this squad to the playoffs it will be remarkable.

Hot take - Cleveland/Houston this Sunday will be a preview of the 2021 AFC Championship Game.

@MWil23, @LETSGOBROWNIES, @hornbybrown, @mistakey, @candyman93 - you agree?

My favorite QB from the 2017 draft class

to go against the #1 overall pick from 2018.

Regardless, I'm sure that the outcome will result in catastrophic heartbreak for one team in the AFC Title Game, followed by catastrophic heartbreak for the other in the Super Bowl.

Which would you rather be?

At that point, I don't care - if it happens, we're all getting DRUNK together that weekend.

Basically all of Seattle's losses this year are to division leaders sans Denver (LA Rams, LA Chargers, Chicago), and they were all one score games. Seattle is primed and ready for a postseason run, which is incredible given how everyone thought they'd be picking top 5 this year after selling their aging players.

Anyone think the Browns can overcome the odds of Hue Jackson and win out? They are clearly better the #6 team in the AFC and better than the Titans, Colts, Bengals, and Ravens. Hue Jackson dug them a pretty deep hole though. If they win out and go 9-6-1 they have a 65% of making the playoffs. If they go 8-7-1 they have about a 7% shot.

Next week will decide it. If we can beat Houston, yes we have a shot.

Brutal schedule down the stretch. Cincy at home should def be a W. But Houston on the road, Carolina at home, Denver on the road, and Baltimore on the road.

I think Houston will be the toughest of all of those but they will all be tough games. Houston is still pretty underrated, even with 8 straight wins. I think they could honestly surprise NE, KC, or PITT in the playoffs.
