Bears @ Cardinals, 9/23/18, 3:25 CT, GAME THREAD

This is a trap game at its finest with how bad Arizona has been and with Bears being praised as one of the top defensive units in the league.

Despite Bradford being a statue they still have guys like DJ and Fitz on offense and Chandler Jones, Patrick Peterson on defense.

I expect a closer game then a lot of people think, especially with Bears coming off a short week.

I think it will be another game last week where the D will need to carry the offense.

This game has more matchup problems than ppl realize I think Bears win... But Pat P will really limit Trubisky eyes... He locked in on ARob in wk2 wont be able to do the same in WK 3... Could KWhite get some deep snaps? With no TMathieu at safety. How will Trey Burton be featured if he has to stay in to chip/block/ subbed out for DSims to help on Chandler Jones?

The D is going to have to carry the team for a few more weeks.

I'm going to be really curious about our week 7 game. Not because it's the patriots, but rather because our bye week is week 5, so Nagy will have the first quarter of the season to look at what's working, what's not, and the strengths of the team, and use the bye week to tighten things up. Week 6 against MIA will be game-planned during the bye week, so that following week of getting back into the schedule/habit of the regular season preparation

Report on Ari:

Defense:

Peterson, Baker and Chandler Jones are still studs individually.   Defense has struggled as they have been a man team forever and are now trying zone concepts and failing.  They keep changing Reddick's position and he can't play fast as a result.  Nkemdiche will make flash plays, but will give up his gap at times too trying to make them.   Rest of defense isn't really that good.

Offense:

Line was built to run block and failure of run game as led them to pass block too much which is their weakness (not great against Bears).  Bradford has been bad and too conservative so far.  Fitz has to be getting old now.  Johnson can still hurt you if allowed.

This is not a good team right now.

Bottom line:

Ari best hope is If Petersonn/Baker somehow get picks and OTs can't block Jones and he wrecks havoc.  If this happens the offense can be stymied and it may keep Ari in the game and give them the hope and confidence to win in the end.

For Bears:

Johnson can't be allowed to get off.  He must be kept frustrated until they are pointing fingers at each other.

Force them into passing downs and jump underneath routes off quick passes.  Don't play loose and let them get 5 yards a pass and move the chains.  They aren't scary deep other than their rookie WR. Compress the field and get after the QB.

They will be over playing Mack after watching him first two games.  They have to.  Use that to get other guys home on stunts blitzes away from Mack.  If Floyd can't be effective with club than don't play him.

Bears should be able to run the ball on this team.  However, if they over stack the box and dare Mitch to beat them they should do just that.  They have too many weapons for Ari to cover them all.   Take what defense gives you.  RPOs should be there vs this LB group aside from Baker who basically plays LB for them.  Attack the LBers in passing game with Cohen and Burton!

Thanks for the report. FYI- Floyd’s club has been removed for a cast where he can use his fingers.

Roquan’s getting an INT on Sunday.

I think the key to this game will be getting JRosen on the field... After Bradford's first two starts the leash is extremely short. The Arizona media is calling for The 1st round Qb after seeing Baker Mayfield's performance on Thursday Night Football. Lfloyd is now out of that club which should lead to him being alot more effective. Cards will try to Triple Mack with a Tackle, TE, and RB... This will leave unblocked pass rushers up the middle and on the back side if schemed correctly. Look for Delayed Blitzes up the middle from Roquan and DannyT. None of the Cards QBs are mobile. This should force the pocket to Floyd who should dominate the heavy footed DJ Humphries.

In the Run game the depth the Bears have will be key. As Amos should have a big day in the box as a result of Arizona not looking to challenge deep. This game also plays to the Bears strength as Amos, Roquan, and Danny T can all cover David Johnson out of the backfield.

If there was ever a game in which Fuller and Amukamara should be up and smothering for 5 yards, THIS IS IT! Larry will give us a little trouble in the slot vs Callahan and Jackson however that is dependent on Ari QBs being able to take advantage.

Cardinals coaching staff has publicly stated that McCoy has scaled back the playbook in an effort to focus on plays they have mastered.

Offensively JHoward and Tarik should be the focal points for the offense. Sustained drives should break the back of this Cards D. RPOs and the short passing game should also be an extension of the run. As much as I would love for Trubisky to Air it out this week he has to stay away from Pat P at all costs. Peterson has returned to shut down form and If Trubisky locks in on ARob the same as he did last week this game will be alot closer than it should be. With that being said Nagy has to implement KWhite in the pass game. That big body and speed matched up on that weak Corner opposite Peterson should provide a hell of a mismatch. Dont know how many targets Trey will get as the gameplan will call for Trubisky to get the ball out quick and Burton will likely be helping out with Chandler Jones and Markus Wheaton who returns this week.

ESPN Stats tweeted that Arizona blitzes on 40% of their plays, I think the key to a W is how good Trubisky can recognize the blitz and exploit it.

Let's hope the coaching staff shows Howard how he can help Trubisky either in pass protection or as a checkdown option.

He is very good at beating the blitz.

He has the 5th highest passer rating when pressured.

Broken bones don't heal that fast he still won't be able to grab with force.   They probably should have just shelved him for a month and a half and kept him practicing with the club to stay in football shape or let him rush in spots.

Roquan will continue to get better as season goes and he gains confidence.  He is a talent.  Hold out sucks, but it is what it is.
