Sony Annouces the $100 Playstation One Retro Console

Meh, honestly not very interested. There’s only a few games I really like that could stand the test of time and they’ve already remastered Crash and Spyro. Was disappointed they didn’t have CTR in the Crash Remaster.

So for me that leaves Armored Core, Twisted Metal and CTR as games I’d be interested in. There’s more I liked playing back then but I just don’t feel like there is any chance that they could stand the test of time.

I'm hoping we get Parasite Eve 1 or 2, Dino Crisis, one of the classic Tomb Raider games (preferably 2), Legacy of Kain, MGS1, and one of the Twisted Metal games on there.

Though I wonder if I should hold out for a PS2 classic? I'd give anything to play SOCOM II again! Also, can it play PS1 discs from the tray if you happen to have any PS1 games lying around?

No. The console is super tiny compared to the original.

Patiently waiting for N64 retro console, but with 4  controllers

...or just buy one? you can probably get a console and controllers and a bunch of games on ebay for $100.

the NES/SNES systems made sense because they are so old they are hard to find, but things like a N64 and PS1 are still around

Except some of the game are still $40-$50. Not worth it for me.

Lmao false

Good games are anywhere between that 40 to 60 dollar range.. and thats if they are even in quality condition

Controllers are super expensive too..

Meh, not as big a deal as the Nintendo ones.

Most of these games really don't hold up, like at all. The charm of the Nintendo games is they were more simple and a lot of them are still acceptable today. Hell, brand new indie games today have mass success with a retro look. PS games were 3D games that resemble modern gaming and feel like some games we play today, except in comparison they look and handle like absolute arse. Nostalgia alone can't save these. I loved Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal, but there's no way I spend more than 5 minutes max playing either of those in 2018 before I tap out.

There are some exceptions, but very few. Parappa the Rapper definitely being one of them. I think FFVII and maybe some other RPGs will still be ok, but FFVII has been available on other platforms for years.

I agree for the most part, but I think this will still sell well.    I mean, Sony really has nothing to lose either way.   At worst, they probably break even...at best, they make a killing off of preexisting games.

But most of the games you can just get on PS Store or in other bundles.

I do agree its BS that none of these consoles are backward compatible.     I still have my PS2 which plays PS1 games as well, but its on its last legs because the disc reader is almost shot.    I have nearly 120 games between my PS1/PS2, and it would be nice to go back and revisit some of them.
