So there’s a thread in NFL General grading each teams 2017 draft, now that there’s been three season to evaluate them.  I took a look at our ‘17 class and it’s hard to look at.  Realistically, at this time next year I think EJax will be the only one remaining from that class.  

To save some googling time:

Trubisky

Shaheen

Jackson

Cohen

Morgan

 

Im sure I could fine dozens of drafts like that, but this one just stood out to me because of the thread in Gen.  Obviously the impact is magnified because of the QB pick, but still...yikes.

3 starters, an all-pro and a pro bowl returner is a solid draft for most teams. Sucks that the QB sucks, but there's still time.

I don't think simply being a starter necessarily makes it a good draft pick.  Obviously Jackson was a great pick, and Cohen was a good pick.  But Trubisky cost numerous picks and is likely in his last year with the Bears and isn't even guaranteed to start any games this year.  Shaheen probably isn't on the roster week 1 and contributed virtually nothing to the team in his time here.  Cohen was real good in 2018, but even he probably isn't here this time next year.  Jordan Morgan was taken in the fifth and already isn't with the team anymore.  Normally you don't expect much from 5th rounders, but in that same year you had Desmond King, George Kittle, and Aaron Jones all go in the fifth.  Sure, hindsight is 20/20.  But you at least expect some contribution from a fifth round pick.

I know this is all revisionist history, but generally you'd like more than 1/5 in your draft class to get second contracts.

It's not a great draft, but 10 could still get a second contract, as could Cohen. Shaheen is probably donezo, but he had 7 TDs his first year. I'd say it was a good draft but obviously underwhelming.

Where do you see 7 TDs his rookie year?  All I'm seeing is 4 TDs his whole career.

Man oh man enough with the Trubisky Pro Bowl stuff. He made the Pro Bowl because of the result of one game & the fact that he was the QB of a 12-4 team so the perception was he was a big reason for that (he wasn't). 

Also, Shaheen never had 7 TD's in a single year. He may never have 7 TD's for the rest of his miserable career.

You could be right but unfortunately there are 1-2 posters on here who continue to cite Pro Bowls as a level of success.
