Yep and that sucks for us.  Keeps our clueless owner happy with these mediocre results.

I don't think this will be the case this time. There was a pretty public power struggle between Rick Smith and O'Brien, and O'Brien won. That was supposed to be the move that brought "alignment" to the FO, and even with three wins, it's clear that points are being left on the field. We're winning due to incompetent play by the other team vs outright winning because we're a good team.

These things - along with a very noticable regression from our franchise QB - might overpower a 9-7 (or even 10-6) team.

(Granted, we're not going 9-7).

its very possible that we will be 5-3 on Friday morning, maybe even 6-3 come the bye week, but the Broncos are going to be a tough team for us to beat on the road. We do have a long time to prep for that game though. Playing at mile high is never easy, but Watson playing with a brusied lung is a big ask.

Heck, Vrabel's meathead 2pt call today and Lafluer seemingly drinking whatever sub 20 pt whiskey they always serve in Tenn, that combo is hardly imposing.  Reich already handed us a game and has something called an Eberflus as a DC.  Marrone's team is in full implosion mode fighting on the sidelines and in the locker room and I'm sorry Bortles was the ONLY one doing anything in that game and showing heart. O'Brien is merely the tallest midget right now, but things are starting to fall in place for another 9-7 AFC South banner hanging - lifetime contract!

Brocktober in NRG is going to be a site to behold.  Broncos could be in full tank mode by week 9 - they are shopping Thomas and Sanders and when the Chiefs blow them out next week, the ridiculously unqualified Vance Joseph could be shown the door (altho I think us beating them at home is more of a final straw type loss for Elway).  Barring further injury, Watson's lung should be fine by then as it will almost be a month.  I like our chances against any run oriented teams as long as the offense plays clean.

FYI - Our old pal ST's coach Joe Marciano just got fired again.  Lions cut bait midseason, like we should have done in 2015 (or 14, 13,12...)  Nobody ever mentions special teams when they are going well, but we have won 4 of these last 6 by less than a TD - one coverage lapse could have easily swung any of these games (as failing to defend the fake punt did vs. the Titans). O'Brien has survived on a razor thin margin for error that ST's haven't given up.   Broncos game is perfect case and point.   Final drive started from the 14, not even the 25, or 40 as in the Marciano era.  That 11 yards very well could be the difference as a 40 yarder in Mile High is a chip shot, 51 yarders will always be a 50/50 proposition (only idiots like Joseph and Kubiak settle for them).  It's the small things that make a difference and we need to thank Gruden for letting Seely fall in our lap and Gaine for stepping up for a qualified coach vs. Izzo.  The Texans have allowed an average of 17.2 yards per kickoff return with a long return of 32 yards and an average of 6.5 yards per punt return with a long of 22 yards. It hasn't been spectacular, but Ervin has been mistake free and usually makes something out of nothing.   Absolutely amazing turnaround by Seely!

BTW - An assist goes to Gaine for shelling out money for a special teams ace like Bademosi and grabbing guys like AJ Moore and Jamerson both of whom made huge plays on Sunday (kudos to Joe Webb who didn't get the tackle, but he blew up the final return).  Keeping Daniel over Lechler has worked out with a decent 44.5 avg and 22 punts downed inside the 20.  Ka'imi might have gotten bailed out on his first missed XP by the miss at the end, but hitting the 46 yarder at the end of the half swung momentum big time and likely was the nail in Joseph's coffin altho they won't bury him until after the season. 19 of 22 with plenty of clutch FGs in there and sailing most kickoffs thru the end zone.
