Now that Griffen is out, we get to see what Danielle Hunter is really made of.  I wonder if he'll start to play up to his contract now that he doesnt have Griffen drawing double teams.  Admittedly, I've liked what I've seen from him to start the season so far

MN needs a DE, I don't yet trust Weatherly or Bower. I'd imagine Griffen will be placed on the commissioners non suspended list so he doesn't take up a roster spot, granted I think the commissioner has to approve.

We could always bring back Robison, he's familiar enough with the team and the system to at least hold it down until Griffen is stable again

Still willing to die on that hill, eh?

I'd have a hard time putting anyone else on that list

Dont you normally figure that out before giving a large extension?

Yup lol, thats exactly why I was skeptical of the extension at the time.  But it looks like they might have known what they were doing on this one.  Hunter's been stout to start the season so far and has a sack in every game

I remember watching Griffin on NFLN last year and thinking there was something off with him. Hope he gets the help he needs.

yep same with me I thought he was a bit "off" as some would say when he was doing a few interviews.  (Not that this is a diagnosis just an observation)

@sammymvpknight I understand what your saying and yes there are alot of factors that could point in several directions as a cause. But what you're looking for is a medical explanation based on study to either support or disapprove your stance. (Which cannot yet be done because we're still learning about CTE and it's symptoms)

But that's the difference between me and you. I don't need any sort of medical study to tell me what I already know because I live it everyday-- I personally see it and feel it.

Also...many people have HORRIBLE appearing brains postmortem and they NEVER demonstrate symptoms. So we can’t assume that there is a correlation.

Known symptoms based on family and friends' recounts? What about those deceased who did in fact demonstrate symptoms but were not aware of CTE or decided to keep it themselves. So we can't assume there that isn't any correlation either. We also cannot rule out the possibility of it being both true and false.

The problem with CTE (postmortem) literature is that it’s confounded by what’s called selection bias. Anyone in the medical field who has experience understanding and digesting medical literature knows that the amount of bias is astounding, to the point that you just can’t take them seriously.

I agree with this. The literature can definitely be used in the wrong way during study's in order to support a narrative. No argument from me there.

The NFL players studied all died from things like suicide and demonstrated grossly abnormal behaviors while alive. So a postmortem analysis showing brain pathology doesn’t tell us that it was caused by repetitive head trauma...it just tells us that people with significant psychological issues had bad looking brains. There is no control group. And we don’t know what the brains of NFL players who go on to live normal lives without any post concussive symptom...heck their brains could look like mush for all we know, but what would that tell us about the abnormal behaviors of the other NFL players.

And with Psychiatry, I’d suggest that you read the DSM-10. You’ll find a common trend, you can’t make a diagnosis unless there aren’t other diagnoses that could explain the pathology. I’m willing to be that there if a ton of depression and substance abuse with the players who go off the dead end. That’s an enormous problem when trying to make this a clinical diagnosis.

Again, I’m not trying to undermine your symptoms or the symptoms of NFL players, I believe that they are real. I’m a rehab specialist, I more than anyone understand TBI...I’m just trying to explain the challenges CTE has in becoming a real clinical diagnosis.

See, again, you're looking at things from a medical standpoint and not really taking real-life instances caused by symptoms into consideration....which is understandable because while you may be close to the field, you haven't actually had to live it.

Do you know what it's like when you can't even remember a simple common word, or your mind draws a blank mid-sentence, or the wrong word comes out, or to be afraid to even do anything physically strenuous in public because you never know when your head will start hurting (which I have yet to find a way for it to go away other than laying down in my bed until it passes)?

It's embarrassing when you say "I'm going to sit down in the...uhh....ummm..chair". It's embarrassing when you have to have to people finish(or guess) what you were going to say. It's embarrassing when you call a thermostat a thermometer by accident. It's embarrassing when your afraid to workout with your son.

These things make you feel very stupid and it affects you mentally. It messes with you because it plays such a big part in your daily activities so it's always there.  It's things like his that spark depression and I don't take any drugs.

Now, I will say that when I got out of rehab they did recommend that I still continue therapy from an outside source but like I said earlier I thought it was all BS.

BTW, the rhetorical question, I don't mean for it to come off as a snarky comment, so please don't take it that way. I am simply providing context based on my own personal experience is all.

And again, I understand what you're saying and my situation may or may not be the norm, but I'm living proof that you don't need a book to tell you everything.
