While I would love to see Barkley play in Shannys offense I don't see the Niners taking a RB that high despite the talent. It's not really Shanny's, our HC, or Turner's, RB coach, style. Throughout their careers they've taken mid-UDFA RBs and turned them into quality NFL players. I get it with Hyde's contract being up after this season and the uncertainty surrounding if we are going to bring him back or not but the Niners sign Hightower who is a Shanny favorite, drafted Williams again hand picked by Shanny and may have found a gem in UDFA Breida.

I assume the Niners are getting a QB through FA or else that would be the biggest need and if that is the case protecting said QB in my mind is our second biggest need. Our OL is pretty bad and could use an upgrade at every position other than LT, however Staley probably only has a couple years left and a replacement could be needed soon. Also bettering the OL will make it easier for said RBs earlier.

Id take Connor Williams at OT, an immediate upgrade over Brown at RT and when the time comes slide him over to LT when Staley hangs em up.

Other possibilities might include a shut down CB or a pass rusher. I'm aware we've drafted 3 DL in the past three years however none of them are your traditional pass rushing specialist/threat every play that other teams have to take notice of and a SAM LB and LEO DE are both still needed in our new 4-3 under scheme. If a WR impresses enough and shows the skills to be a WR 1 in the NFL we could use a player like that as well, preferably taller than  6'0" just add some size to our lollipop gang we have as a WR corps.

Again all of this is subject to change, we'll see what the season tells us.

I don't get all the connection of Barkley + 49ers at all for the reason that Fureys went through here. I can't see Shanny doing that. I definitely think QB first and foremost unless we sign in FA, then there are a myriad of various options.

Raiders aren't going WR in the first. Cooper (2018), Crabtree (2019), Roberts (resigned 3yr/12 mil), and Patterson (2018) make up a solid corps. Insert Projects Holton, Brent, Hatcher, and Mickens....

Bigger needs at Defense, MLB, OLB, DT, could even take a LT depending on if the resign Penn. If they take a WR I'd guess it would be in the later rounds.

not sure if Hyatt is an upgrade at LT, if he is, im all aboard, but id still go Landry to have him rush opposite of spence

Yeah. Even if Donovan Smith struggles this year like he has his first two, our pass rush is a much bigger need.

Smith doesn't concern me nearly as much as everybody else other than Marpet.

Dotson is about done. But we've got Benenoch and Wester who both made the roster and could eventually be our future RT.

Sweezy looks like he's about 100%. I don't think he'll drop off from his Seattle play.

Pamphile is solid. And he's a great utility guy; he can play everything except center. The biggest question with him is if we'll retain him; it's his contract year. We might let him walk with Jameis' and Evans' contracts coming up. Unless he takes a hometown discount.

Panphile is fine as a utility guy, but not as a starter.  Same with Dotson.  Sweezy wasn't very good in Seattle, but they paid him so he's staying put.  That leaves LG and RT and RT that I want to see upgraded before Smith, unless they can get a stud and flip Smith over to RT where I always felt he belonged.

Smith played really well down the stretch last year. It's all a matter of if he can continue it. I've always thought he'd be better at guard or RT. But Koetter and company are adamant that he can be among the best LTs in the NFL. And they don't throw around praise like that about just anyone.

I'm higher on Pamphile than you are. He'd be the best "sixth man" in the NFL if that was his job. As a starter, I think he's good enough.

We agree on Dotson. But like I said, we've got two guys in the wings that have the potential to step into his spot next year.

Sweezy is a good run blocker. His knock has always been pass blocking. But I'm not too worried. He brings a nastiness to our oline we haven't had in a long time.

CB and OT are the two spots I think make the most sense at this point for our 1st round pick. Johnson likely won't be back next year w have another free agent or two in the secondary. At OT we need a long term successor for Whitworth and the pick could start out at either RT or one of the guard spots until he moves to LT.

agreed! although, I would bet OLine is where we go with this regardless of Tru. Phillips can find gems for CBs later on I feel
