This was the game in which Drew Bledsoe had 70 pass attempts - a record which, amazingly, still stands.

Great game between two quality teams, coaches, and quarterbacks that went down to the wire. Too bad Jerry Glanville is the color commentator. He was horrible.

Interesting note that even though Bledsoe passed for 426 yards, he put it up 70 times, so his average comes out to about 6 YPA.

1985 Week 14 Indianapolis Colts (3-10) at Chicago Bears (12-1).

This was a game that on paper looked like the makings of a blowout. Instead it was pretty close. The Colts had built a reputation of being a perennial doormat in recent years. They had lost five straight coming into this game under new head coach Rod Dowhower. They were 19.5 point dogs on the road against Mike Ditka's Bears, who were coming off their only loss of the season in Miami on MNF. Despite the insurmountable odds, the Colts give the Bears a tough fight in the 4th quarter, and only lose by a touchdown 17-10. Not a bad effort considering the circumstances.

1999 Week 8 Minnesota Vikings (3-4) at Denver Broncos (2-5).

After a disappointing 3-4 start, the Vikings travel to Denver to face the defending champion Broncos, who are without many of their Super Bowl stars from the year before. Guys like Terrell Davis, John Elway, Shannon Sharpe, John Mobley, and Steve Atwater were all MIA from the Broncos due to injury, retirement, or free agency. Mike Shanahan's team doesn't quit though, and shows plenty of fight against a Vikings team that really hadn't found it stride yet that year. Unfortunately it's not enough, and the Vikings escape with a 23-20 victory. Chris Carter has a huge day, including an amazing sideline grab at the 9:02 mark of this video.

Week 11 1994 Buffalo Bills (5-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3).

Bills travel to Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. The game ends up becoming a nightmare for QB Jim Kelly most of the night, who is relentlessly tormented to the tune of 6 sacks by the Steelers pass rush. Both teams' offenses struggle to find a quality groove all night, but it was the Steelers defense with it's 3 forced turnovers that lead the way to a 23-10 victory.

1st MNF in San Diego since 1996 Drew Brees and LT vs The Bus and Big Ben

If I remember correctly the Chargers were supposed to have a MNF game in San Diego a couple of years before this, but due to wildfire activity in the city at the time, the game was moved to Sun Devil Stadium in Arizona. They played the Dolphins.

1994 Week 14 Green Bay Packers (6-6) at Detroit Lions (6-6).

Great game between both teams battling to keep pace with the Bears and Vikings in the NFC Central. Bears, Vikings, Packers, and Lions would make the playoffs that year with the Vikings being the division winner. Tampa Bay was the only one that didn't make it.

The momentum in this contest goes back and forth with both sides making big plays for a close finish. Brett Favre, and Barry Sanders had a big afternoons for their teams. The Packers and Lions had an underrated rivalry during this time.

Not meaning to get off topic but found it funny that Dexter Reid has 2 Super Bowl rings while only playing 3 seasons in the NFL. Something to tell his kids that’s for sure.

1983 Week 9 Washington Redskins (6-2) at San Diego Chargers (3-5)

The defending world champion Washington Redskins travel to San Diego to battle the Chargers in a Monday night showdown. With a win the Chargers would only be two games back of the AFC West division leading Raiders and Broncos. This was the first time Redskins coach Joe Gibbs would face his former team where he was the offensive coordinator just three years earlier. The Chargers were without starting QB Dan Fouts this game, and backup Ed Luther took over. Even though he would have a mostly miserable night tossing 6 interceptions, he was still able to almost lead the Chargers back in a potential big time comeback that fell short. Redskins kicker Mark Mosley missed 4 field goals however, which helped keep the Chargers in the game. Overall, not a bad contest.

1996 New Orleans. Super Bowl 31: Green Bay Packers/New England Patriots.

Pretty underrated Super Bowl to me. New England battled back from an early 10-0 deficit, and took a 14-10 lead at the end of the first. Packers battled back though via an Antonio Freeman bomb TD, Chris Jacke FG, and Favre TD run to take a 27-14 lead into halftime. Patriots fight back in the third to make it 27-21, but the Packers sealed the deal with a 99 kickoff return TD by Desmond Howard, who would also win Super Bowl MVP honors. Reggie White shined with 3 QB sacks, and Brett Favre had 246 yards with 3 total TDs. The Packers defense sacked Drew Bledsoe 5 times, and intercepted him 4 times.

2000 NFC Wildcard St. Louis Rams at New Orleans Saints

This was a good game. The first playoff win for the Saints. It was time when it looked like the franchise might have a bright future ahead under head coach Jim Haslett, and quarterback Aaron Brooks. The Rams were defending Super Bowl champions, but had fallen off a bit during the year through it's defense. Still, they made the playoffs in the final week of the season with a victory against then divisional rival New Orleans, in New Orleans (also with help via the Lions losing to the Bears). Due to the setup, the Rams would have to play the winner of their division the following week, which was in fact, New Orleans.

In this contest, it seemed like everything went the Saints way. And it looked like it was lights out once the Rams, trailing 31-13 with 6:32 to go in the 4th, committed a turnover deep into Saints territory. Still, the Rams roared back, scoring two touchdowns in the span of a little over two minutes (their second possession coming through an onside kick recovery) cutting the lead to 31-28. Rams would get a chance to drive for a potential winning score, but return man Az-Zahir Hakim would fumble it away on a botched fair catch. My dream matchup of the 2000 Ravens and Rams went up in smoke. Rams had 5 turnovers on this day to the Saints 2, but still made it close.
