5 up, 5 down vs the Titans

So I was poking around in the Browns forum and I am shameless going to steal one of their post game threads.

5 up:

1) Lesean McCoy.

Shady is back. It was obvious from the start that getting him the ball was priority number one and it paid off. He looked good running the ball and got some tough yards. His catch on third down at the start of our game winning drive was absolutely huge and I think it highlights how much he means.

2) Taron Johnson.

Another week and another great performance for Johnson. He had a great interception and seemed very reliable in coverage.

3) Offensive line.

The much maligned offensive line won the battle up front against a very, very talented Titans' defensive line. The game winning drive showed that they were consistently winning in the run game. Additionally, Josh Allen was only sacked once. Still plenty of areas for improvement but a surprising performance.

4) Front seven.

The defense won the battle in the trenches, just like the offensive line. The Titans could not get the run game going consistently and the Bills pass rush was pretty evident throughout. Edmunds was excellent and I thought Harrison Phillips and Trent Murphy were very disruptive throughout.

5) Matt Milano.

What a player Matt Milano has become. Another turnover and then guy just seems to find the ball. This team thrives on producing turnovers and Milano is often the architect. He doesnt just create turnovers though, he does it all well.

Honorable mention

Zay Jones

Tre White

Chris Ivory

5 Down:

1) Receivers.

Another week of no separation and  no real hints of anyone becoming a play maker for Josh Allen. Zay and Josh seemed to get into a little bit of a rhythm but Benjamin, Foster and just about everyone else were invisible. I hope Ray Ray keeps getting more time and I'm shocked we dont run more screens given how bad our receivers are at getting open downfield.

2) Special teams.

Punt coverage was not great for most of the game. The botched fake/hold was another black mark. They made the most important play when needed but it was a mixed bag at best. Not a terrible day but needs some improvement.

3) Josh Allen.

Not asked to do much and his TD run was awesome but anytime you throw for 82 yards in a game it's hard to say you had a good game. He didnt contribute to the game winning drive and his offensive struggled to finish off a Titans team when the defense created turnovers. The offensive performance is far from his fault but he deserves criticism as well.

4) Brian Daboll.

Pretty much the same reason as Allen. I thought the play calling at times was pretty good and the team got into a rhythm but only scoring 12 points and an inability to throw the ball means he finds himself on this list.

5) Charles Clay.

Out produced by Jason Croom and not becoming the target for Allen I had hoped. With a back WR group we really need him to step up.

Our WR's are so bad it hurts. Kelvin Benjamin I would ship out for a conditional 7th round pick and not think twice about it. He's slow, has a bad attitude and can't even catch a ball this year. He gets no separation and sucks.

It's easy to look at Josh Allens stat line and think he played terrible but for a rookie QB to progress, we need to give him protection and WR's who can separate. He finally got some pass protection this week but NO ONE is getting open or separating from CB's.

On a positive note, Shady and the run blocking looked a lot better. Our defense is legit and playing how I expected it to start the season. Tre White is going to be an all pro this year and Edmunds/Milano are really coming together as a LB duo.

Yeah absolutely agree with you on Josh. He's got so few tools on offense hes basically playing with one arm tied behind his back. I'd really love for them to split Shady out wide and use his as a receiver to try and generate something in the passing game.

Josh is definitely not the major problem on offense but it wasnt his best game. I thought the interception was actually maybe his best throw. Threw it before his guy was open, great velocity and hit his guy in his hands.

If we can keep our running game going I think we can at least give Josh and this team a shot this year. I was hugely impressed with how the line controlled the line of scrimmage against the Titans d-line which is one of the best in football.

Really like this idea! I'd start it with a Pro set with he and Ivory back there, then motion Shady out. That would be fun to see what possibilities came from just that.

Exactly what I was thinking. We should put our best pieces on the field as much as possible and make defensive stop them.
