Not only did he become the first black player drafted in the NFL, he was also one of the greatest men to grace this Earth. I had the honor of going to his home and had the chance to sit down and just talk about life with him and his wife, Viola, who became the first black judge in my home county. He gifted me a New York Times obituary commemorating Bill Willis' legacy, who had passed away the week before I met Mr. Taliaferro. Willis was signed by Paul Brown even though the NFL still had a gentlemen's agreement to exclude black players. I still have that article tucked away in my copy of Mr. Taliaferro's biography. We lost a great one today, guys.

RIP.
