When VJ gets fired

Maybe I'm being paranoid but these kinds of stories scare me. We all know Klis is a mouthpiece for the organization so it kind of freaks me out a little bit when he pens a puff piece on Vance, placing blame for the team's troubles elsewhere.

Here are a few nuggets.

Blame Vance Joseph all you want, and most of Broncos Country already has. But a deeper dig reveals the Broncos have a more specific, and serious problem.

These numbers suggest that when Joseph is given a little bit more offense, he can coach a team to victory.

Joseph’s coaching background is on the defensive side. As head coach, he needs help from his coaching assistants and front office for the offense to become playoff caliber.

In the final quarter of the season, the Broncos’ offense has been trying to operate with virtually no experience prior to this year at receiver, tight end and running back, and the offensive line has lost three of its top seven players to season-ending injuries.

Case Keenum, the quarterback, has fallen short of expectations but in fairness, he isn’t exactly working with Hall of Fame complements.

Now, I don't disagree with a lot of what he writes in terms of the offense being a problem and the injuries not helping. But what is his aim here? Point out what he sees is the real situation or prepare to soften the blow to the fan base when Vance is retained while Ellis, Elway & Co. tell the fans we need to upgrade the offense instead of making a coaching change?

I'm a big LaFleur fan, just like I was last year. He's a good coach and he's had success in multiple stops along the way. Hard to ignore.

Dan, I wouldn't worry too much about Klis. He's probably just trying to keep a source happy or something. I cannot fathom how Joseph sticks around. I would entertain the argument that he got jobbed the first year not picking his coordinators, but he did this year, and the offense regressed + defense had some questionable decisions time and time again. Now you have guys like Mecklenburg publicly calling for his head, and the fanbase has completely soured. I can't see him staying.

Nepotism / old boys club. Vance is in the club. He will flutter around the league for years.

I hope he can takeover for the Chiefs, Raider, or Chargers...that'd be great!  Even better, takeover for the Pats when Bill leaves.

Why do I keep reading that if VJ gets fired from Denver, that Cincinnati may hire him?  Oh wait they are the Bangles.

It's partially old boys club stuff and the fact that he has a pre-established relationship with Marvin Lewis, Hue Jackson and that organization at large, remember when they denied our request to interview him for DC a few years back? That ended up a major blessing in disguise as it got Wade here and we don't sniff Super Bowl 50 if we have Vance calling the defense.

Cincy is just a weird organization. I expect Marvin Lewis to move upstairs to some sort of executive role, they name Hue HC/OC and Vance Asst HC/DC. That's just how that franchise rolls.

And that’s why the Bengals will forever oscillate between being a borderline playoff contender, and a downright dumpster fire. An old boys club entirely formed of specialists in failure.

An article like this would have been a better way for Klis to write his, FWIW.

I think the piece by Klis could be a shot by Ellis across the bows of Elway for leaking the story about Shanahan.

I suspect that Elway might want to bring Shanahan back for next season - because, as has been noted, the HC pool this year is quite shallow (compared to two years ago) and Shanahan/Kubiak would bring much needed stability.

From everything I have read - there appears to be a power struggle between Elway and Ellis that is being played out over the choice of HC - who wins could tell a lot (and if Elway loses we could well see him out the door).

Boy wouldn’t it be something if Elway abruptly resigned and came out and publicly said Ellis was the reason? That would certainly hasten the end of the trust controlling the franchise.

I would love it if Elway did that and took one for the team. Another decade of the trust waiting for Brittany Bowlen to turn 40 could be a nightmare (then, when she is near 40, I bet that Ellis discredits her so he can stay in power. I think they like Brittany because she won't be ready for over 10 years, while Beth is ready now).

I'm pretty sure Vance will be gone following the Charger game. If not on Black Monday then sometime after. Sure at one point we were on a good run and looked to be in playoff contention but we didn't exactly look great in those wins, we sort of lucked into them. Add to the fact that Elway almost ditched him last year and then this year's poor performances can't seem him sticking around.

I just hope we take our time with the next hire. Properly evaluate coaches. There really is no rush to get one in with the offseason being here so got to really try and get it right this time or esle who knows where this team is headed.

Hard to imagine a Mike Shanahan + Cousins combo coupled with these explosive young offensive players wouldn't have generated some serious points. If that story is true, then you can officially count me in on the "Joe Ellis needs to go" bandwagon. Rumor has it he also played a substantial role in bringing in McDaniels although I'm not sure if that's true or not.
