So you're kicking one guy to the curb because he's a bad KR, but you aren't signing another guy because KR is irrelevant?

No. I question if his ability as a PR is worth devoting a roster spot too. Or is MN better off finding a new PR who might have more upside as a KR, or RB, WR or CB.

I honestly believe they evaluate that every year.

Right now the players they have dropped or put on the practice squad must not be the player they think has enough upside to do what he does AND be a player on the field.

Sherels is a FA in 2018 so it will be interesting to see what they do now that he's 30. I could see him getting a one year deal to compete in camp but I think in an ideal world you'd draft a third RB who could fill in as a PR or backup CB. Easier said than done I suppose. Just wonder if it's a skill set Spielman will look for in 2018.

I think they looked for that out of Adams this year, was hoping for more from him as a return man and just couldn't find it.

3rd RB situation will be entertaining option tho. Many good options in the draft this year that have returned kicks and punts, only thing to look at is if we resign McKinnon. Can be a KR option for us, but we did see some bone-headed returns out of him, not sure of his PR value tho.

Mike Hughes would be a good potential replacement for Sherels; hope we draft him if he falls to the end of the third round:

"Hughes has five interceptions, 11 passes broken up, a forced fumble, and 44 tackles in 2017. He also has been a dangerous kick returner with two scores and punt returner, including a punt return touchdown."

If there's a chance of drafting a CB this year to possibly replace Waynes in a year, it'd be the perfect spot to get someone who also adds return ability.

Here are links to his return TD's.  Shows nice acceleration on these returns.

If he fell to the third we should take him in a heartbeat.

Dare I say this kid looks a little like Patterson?

I think he does, and has a good rep as a cover corner.  Just wondering what round he will go in, is slated as a 2-3 round pick.  End of the third would be a steal if we could get him then.

I don't like drafting specialists so high, especially with limited capital (7 picks: 5 are originally ours and the other 2 being 6th round comp picks). He needs to be a corner first returner second.

Zimmer emphasized last month that Minnesota’s special teams units could improve. The unit’s performance over the past few games has been the step forward Zimmer was looking for.

Zimmer: “All the areas are doing much better, I think, now. We could still probably be better on kickoff return, but we’ve been careful about the ones we take out. Other than that, I think they’ve done a lot better. I think Marcus has been a lot more aggressive. That’s added to field position. I think our coverage units have been better.”

Zimmer also highlighted the Vikings punting game. Ryan Quigley punted five times against the Bengals and on three occasions pinned them inside their own 20.

His scouting reports claim he is an excellent CB, that is why is he slated to go in the 2nd or 3rd round.  The kick and punt return abilities are a bonus, as is the fact that he can fill three "shoes" with one roster spot.  He would have an impact immediately on special teams, while becoming acclimated to playing CB n Zimmer's system, which can take a while to learn.

Mike Hughes hasn't even officially declared yet.

I "assume" he will tough.

Still struggles with any sort of press man, but that may be something he can work on.

He really isn't your "typical" CB that can play that Man Coverage well.

Usually don't start digging into guys that haven't declared but since this was in our forum I decided to watch a little.
