A week after going six of six on field goal tries to help the Vikings defeat Baltimore, Kai Forbath was true of all four of his field goal tries in the win over Cleveland. Forbath hit on tries of 34, 35, 43 and 51 yards, helping the Vikings overtake and increase the lead after falling behind early.

Forbath is now 21 of 22 (95.5%) on field goal tries this season.

Yet the extra point eludes him.

bah. it hasn't been the difference maker in any losses.

he has contributed 75 points on his kicks this year, and his misses have accounted for a lack of 7 points. i'll take that ratio any day.

Kai Forbath has been with the Vikings almost a year. After signing with Minnesota on Nov. 15, 2016,  the kicker made all 15 of his field goal tries last season.  He has been accurate again this year, making 21 of his 22 tries. Since arriving in Minnesota, Forbath has been successful on 36 of 37 kicks (97.3 percent).

Spielman: “He went through ups and downs early in his career and seems to have found his groove here. It’s a pretty good, comforting feeling that when the guy goes out there to kick a field goal, he’s got, I think, a 97 percent chance of making it. He’s pretty good plus-50 as well. Maybe the PATs could be a little more consistent. We’re trying to tell him that they’re field goals and that we don’t have PATs in the NFL anymore. He’s done a phenomenal job overall, and we’re very fortunate to have him.”

Forbath has made 23 of 30 extra point attempts from 33 yards (76.7 percent).

so let's see... out of a potential 141 points in front of him, he's brought home 131 of them, a 93% payoff.

if he had missed three fg's and 1 pat (the same 10 points) would anyone care?

I think people still have the tendency to think extra points are pretty much "automatic" even though the distance is now much greater.  Wasn't that the point?  Meaning, by moving them back they are now not automatic and thus more drama is introduced into what was a "boring" play?

If you want to read an interesting article on Belichick and his love of special teams, here it is...

Quote

“I’m just saying you had more options. Back in the ’70s, you had the jumpers, you had the Matt Blairs and the guys like that that would have five, six, seven blocks a year. That was eliminated. Now you can’t hit the center so the center is probably the weakest by far protector on any team’s field goal unit, but you’re not allowed to hit him. You can’t line up on him so that’s another opportunity you don’t have. You can’t overload so you can only put six guys to a side, so that’s another—you don’t have that extra guy to create that extra gap so you can’t do that. You can’t push anybody from behind.
