I mean, at the end of the day...Caldwell's future as a GM is still pretty much tied to Bortles. How many GMs get a mulligan on high 1st round QBs that don't really pan out? Of course he's gonna have a vested interest in doing everything he can to make that pick look as minimally bad as possible. Even if he can't see the forest for the trees, and ends up dragging the whole team down with him as collateral damage in the process, apparently. Indeed. And when they dove in with the extension racket, it was pretty clear that unless Blake miraculously reinvented himself...we were going to end up in a stupid situation like this at some point before the contract was up. That's even in spite of seemingly trying to coddle Bortles and help secure his place on the roster by bringing in a completely bleh, noodle arm of backup so as not to even realistically threaten the starting job. Yet here we are anyway.

Jags
The Blake Bortles extension was the beginning of the end of this Jaguars regime.

I mean, unless I'm mistaken, Blake can be let go at the beginning of the 2019 league year for a cap savings.
