JaguarCrazy2832
Going into the 2017 offseason there weren't many good options for the Jaguars in free agency so they decided to extend Bortles and while several people said it was a mistake because we "have a window of opportunity", I'm just wondering what would you have done in this scenario 2018 Free Agents that didn't re-sign with their teams(that supposedly had perceived value): Kirk Cousin: Easily the cream of the crop, 3 year starter with some success but some questioned whether or not he was commanding too much money given his W/L numbers Case Keenum: A career backup that seemed to be the epitome of a 1-hit wonder but he had a strong 2017 campaign AJ McCarron: Nothing ever proven but he's young and a college winner Teddy Bridegwater: Someone once highly rated but a catastrophic knee injury hurt his value and likely was seen as too risky Sam Bradford: Always injured, cant be counted on to play half a season Everyone else seemed to be a backup 2018 NFL Draft Options: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen & Josh Rosen all were out of reach with the Jaguars picking at 29. In order to get 1 of them would have required trading our 1st, 2nd, 2019 1st and possibly more Lamar Jackson: Someone we passed on despite some considering it to be a mistake. He likely isn't ready to take over as a starting QB yet Mason Rudolph & Kyle Lauletta and the rest simply weren't ready to start day 1 on a team that just went to the AFC Championship game. So other than shelling out some major cash for Kirk Cousins was there really a slam dunk option for a team some considering to be the biggest chance to knock off New England in the playoffs? What would you have done?
Soko
Kirk and Teddy would’ve been my top targets. Kirk was unlikely with the timing of Bortles’ extension, but Teddy could’ve and should’ve been a high priority.
RandyMossIsBoss
I would have brought in a more viable backup at the very least. Teddy or McCarron, maybe try to trade for Foles. At least you'd have options at this juncture. Also would have looked for a QB in the mid rounds. Overall though I don't think there's anything I would have done that would make much of a difference right now. Jags came 1 drive away from a SB trip with Blake, who played very well in their last 2 playoff games. It would have been hard to justify cutting ties with him and giving Cousins a monster contract or signing a band-aid like Keenum or Bradford to big money. Giving Cousins a huge deal is really the only thing they could have conceivably done that would make them a better team right now, but I doubt he signs with Jacksonville over Minnesota with their 2 great WRs. Even if they do get him, I don't think they go from 3-5 dumpster fire to 6/7 wins at the midpoint like we expected. Fournette banged up, defense has been under performing, WRs aren't great, etc. Kirk is a top 15 QB, not an elite one, he wouldn't carry the offense. For some reason a lot of people thought the Vikings should have stuck with keenum instead of going with cousins. Of course keenum wasn't under contract so it was easier to move on I'm sure
Danger
Plan A should have been Kirk Cousins, with Bridgewater being plan B, and resigning Bortles being the last resort.
patriotsheatyan
Plan A: Kirk Cousins Plan B: Alex Smith Plan C: Teddy Bridgewater Plan D: Tyrod Taylor Plan E: Case Keenum
vikingsrule
Teddy Bridgewater to the Jags would have made a ton of sense for both sides.
