Ryan Fitzpatrick named starter

Kinda weird. Your number one overall pick sucks so you use the back up, who will likely win enough games to make sure you can't get the new (hopefully) franchise QB.

But when Fitz fails in flying colors Jameis will get another start. I'm getting whiplash just thinking about it.

Pretty much any new coach is going to want to have input on who "their" guy will be. Be it a draft pick or if there is a vet they really want to hold the fort down until they develop someone.

After Winston's dreadful performance at CIN, there was no other decision.

But let's also recognize that Fitzmagic crumbles with pressure in his face.  The D's he faced didn't take advantage (PHI should have, which is surprising, NO wasn't).   D's who know he's starting will bring the heat.

Still, he's going to make himself one helluva payday next year when he gets a McCown like deal for 2 years (think 2/24M as a floor, even if he sucks this 2nd go around, and obviously Keenum $ if he plays well), so gotta give props, he's earned the next one.

Once TAM is eliminated from playoff contention, they'll go back to Winston, unless Fitzmagic struggles before.   But really, given how bad Winston was, there's really no debate here.   With a GM / coach fighting to keep their job, there is really no other decision that's justifiable.

If Tampa has made up their mind about Winston, there is no way he gets to see the field at all, Tampa can't have an RGIII scenario.  Keep him away and make Ryan Griffin active as backup.  If Fitz plays bad or gets hurt, we evaluate Griffin and worst case we win a couple games ruining our draft position.  While Koetter needs to play for the now, the Glazers shouldn't risk setting the franchise even further back cap wise if they are ready to move on from Winston.

Who knows, maybe the franchise sees that Koetter/Monken are coming along with the offense and just needs that QB piece and gives them another season if they can go get someone like Teddy/Foles or another Vet.

I have been one of the bigger Winston supporters and hope he turns it around but for the sake of the team, it's time for a separation.

OverTheCap lays it all out and from a financial POV- they can't risk him getting injured or guaranteeing him his 2019 salary. They need to protect his trade value, such as it is
