Broncofan
I will say this - if there was a time to use the TO - it would have been for McManus. They showed the replay, you actually can see the team isn't ready to line up until there is 9-10 secs, and McManus didn't even pause to set up, and they snapped with less than 3-4 secs left, with almost no time to even take a breath. And that was a predictably bad kick, way right and short - and we know McManus can make it from 62 easy in altitude. A good coach would have realized the ST weren't set up, and given McManus a better shot. But instead....we got VJ. SMH.
germ-x
The last minute of that half is the nail in Joseph’s HC coffin if Denver ends up losing this game. The TO on the FG is just part of the game, but he isn’t in a position where he gets the benefit of the doubt. I’ll give him this, though. He’s doing everything in his power to try and win this game, he isn’t sitting back and playing it safe. 62 yard FG, trying to freeze a kicker. He just as easily could’ve punted or not have made a decision on the FG TO. No one would’ve complained if they’d made that 1st FG and he hadn’t called a TO. He still needs to go, but I’ll hand it to him, he’s going to go out in fashion.

If it worked, we'd be congratulating him...for what is a standard coaching playbook decision. When he doesn't really deserve any credit there, either. I do ding him hard though for that Hopkins catch challenge. That had NO chance of winning. But that's something you only do if you don't understand the rules. That is a real nail in his coffin IMO. A HC is supposed to know something as important as the catch rules. And I do think a good ST-savvy coach would have known that we were rushing a 62-yard FG. When we have a risk of turning it right back to HOU with a miss, we have to be better in coaching to call TO, and let McManus get set up. A miss like that, if you look at the replay, it's clear the unit was rushing it. For a 62-yard FG, you can't be rushing. It's not an OMG-so-obvious mistake that he didn't call the TO - but a good HC would. We just got more concrete evidence VJ just isn't good. At all. It's unfair that the result will get VJ killed unfairly today - but like you said, his body of work, it's just inevitable, so I'll take any way we can get that gets him out of the coaches' seat ASAP. germ-x
Keenum just does things that are head scratching. That weird throw to Lindsay ended up working out but Sanders was literally sitting wide open in the middle of the field for the entire play. I mean it ended up working out, but any competent QB would have hit Sanders within 2 seconds for 5+ yards. It’s almost like he refuses to take anything that can’t go for a big gain. Honestly, that's a blessing if it's a clean break, no compound injury or joint involvement. Awful for us for 2018 as it's a season-ender with only 7 games left, but we aren't contenders. And he'll be fine for 2019. And I hate to say it, but it probably lets us sign him to a very reasonable extension than if he played all 16 games. It could have been a LOT worse - he could have had a torn ACL. That would have killed us for 2018 and much of 2019, since full power / explosion doesn't come for 18 months (players return at 10-12 months, but not at full power/explosion, that takes a full 18 months). It sucks for him if it's true for this year...but we all know we're not contenders. So get well, and I guess we let McGovern show just how valuable he can be in our future, and I guess it's time to get Sam Jones active, too. Even if he's not ready to help, might as well find out. He’s going to be a damn good player though. He’s been a menace all game. All the talk of average with him or his 3 cone or whatever the hell else needs to be put to rest. He’s not Von Miller explosive, but he’s plenty explosive and is absolutely worth a top 5 pick.

germ-x
The OL has been good today. Not perfect, but Watt, Mercilus, and Clowney isn’t an easy matchup and when you don’t really hear those names you’re doing something right.
Broncofan
Keenum just doesn't have the arm to fit the ball into the window there for Patrick. He has to either throw with more anticipation, or have a stronger arm. Instead, very lucky that wasn't picked, the defenders knocked each other off the ball.
