Berlin Blitzkrieg

Offense
TL;DR -  Split Burton out to lighten the box, run enough to keep them honest, get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.

3 WR/1 TE - This will be our formation the majority of this game.  We are going to spread out the defense of IC and attack their linebackers in coverage.  We will typically split Burton out into a slot position to force a LB to follow and lighten the box.  Look for us to regularly put him next to Tyreek in the slot to get an additional blocker for our quick WR screens.  We will also use Burton on quick passes to get easy yardage as we don’t think the IC LBs can match his athleticism in man.  In zone, his job will be to find the soft spots and sit as a safety net for Case.

Lamar and Corey will also be used regularly in the passing game.  We will get them out into the flats where we think they will have an advantage over the remaining LB in space.  Also, to limit their pass rush, look for a number of RB screens.

Of course, we are going to use this formation to take our shots to our WRs and pick up chunk yardage.  We expect Tyreek to be doubled, but we won’t shy away from that.  Look for a mix of quick passes to get the ball in his hands and deep shots where he can run free.  We will also go after the outside CBs of IC, especially Butler who has not been great this year.  If they have Logan on the outside, we will frequently target him as well.  Golladay and MVS should win their fair share, especially against the Cover 1 IC likes to use.  We will rotate Godwin and Agholor in as well.  We think they will have to put both safeties back which will open things up for us.

With a LB split out, we will look to run around 40% of the time.  We think our OL can win regularly against a DL lacking Khalil Mack.  We will mix in standard runs and draws to further slow their pass rush.  We want to run enough so that play action becomes effective in sucking up their LBs.

4 WR/1 RB - We will use this around 20% of the time, bringing in Godwin or Agholor for Burton.  We think that 4th WR can win regularly against the 4th CB of IC.  Look for a fair number of draws and RB screens to slow the pass rush, as well as a few standard runs to keep them honest.  We also also use some WR screens out of bunches and stacks to pick up cheap yardage.  We will typically line up 3 WRs to one side.

5 WR - Tyreek, Golladay, Godwin, Agholor, and MVS.  We will use this shotgun formation around 5% of the time in hurry up situations.  We will layer our routes with a mix of deep shots and crossing routes.  Once again, we will use some WR screens to keep them from backing off too much.

Defense

TL;DR -  Prevent the big play, force IC to slow play, rotate our DL a lot.

Conley will play RCB.  Hilton will play LCB.  Haha will take the slot. Kazee and Gaulden will be sitting in a two deep shell.  We want our corners to try and play close to the line to jam their WRs and slow them down knowing they have help deep.  This will also allow them to help out in the run game.  Against the pass, Tremaine and Rashaan will be sitting in middle zones to remove quick slants and crossing routes.  If a RB slips out for a pass, the LB to that side will leave their zone to follow in man coverage and the other LB will slide to the center.  Our goal here is to slow down the offense of IC.  We don’t want to give up big plays as we think this strategy will become even more effective in the red zone.

We are going to start Hand this week at DE to give us more size against the run game.  This plays into our strategy of slowing down the IC offense.  Look for frequent rotation in the DL as all of our depth guys have played well this year.  We want to keep our guys fresh to hold up against a very good IC OL.  In passing situations, look for us to put Hand or Wise inside for more pass rushing and Obada on the edge as he is getting pressure 20% of his pass rushes.  But all of our DL will get rotated in.

Tremaine and Rashaan will have the job of cleaning up the run game  Both are very athletic and we trust them to handle the FB and RB to keep IC from breaking off any chunk yardage.  If they play a TE, Tremaine will have the TE in man and Rashaan will sit in the middle zone while spying the RB.

Ivory Coast Black Rhinos

Ivory Coast Black Rhinos Gameplan:

Offense
3 Wide "20" Personnel
- We will come out using 3 receivers on the field, as well as two backs. We are going to primarily operate out of the shotgun, as we have our backups in our offensive line at left tackle and left guard, and we want to make sure Andrew Luck has plenty of time. One of the backs, primarily Anthony Sherman, will be used as a blocker while the other will serve as a check down option. We will sprinkle in some pistol formations, particularly when we are going to be lined up in shorter yardage situations, and give Andrew Luck some RPO plays.

Quick Passing Game- With backups on our offensive line, we want to make sure that Andrew Luck doesn't take unnecessary hits, and we will be focusing on a quick passing game with the receivers. We'll make use of slants, hitches, quick receiver screens to immediately get the ball out of Luck's hands, and help set up a few play action deep shots later in the game.

Use Power Runs behind the Right Side- We should still have (at the time of this writing) our center, right guard, and right tackle, so the bulk of the running plays will be designed to be run behind them. Anthony Sherman will operate as the lead blocker, and we'll power the ball off-tackle or up between the tackle and guard. We will sprinkle some counter-plays to catch the defense leaning one way, and a few fake hand-off screen plays to keep the defense honest.

Defense
4-2-5 Nickel Defense
- We anticipate Berlin will come out with 3 wide, so we counter with our own set-up. For a heavier set, we would drop CB Malcolm Jenkins and bring on Robert Nkemdiche first for a 5-2 look. Jerome Baker will be primarily responsible for the running back, with Tony Jefferson on Trey Burton. We'll use Wesley Woodyard as a blitzer as well as zone/spy in the middle, to sniff out screens and draws.

Cover 1 Man- We'll primarily operate out of man coverage for this matchup, with Tre'Davious White shadowing Tyreek Hill, Adoree Jackson on Desean Jackson first / Chris Godwin second, and Malcolm Butler taking the third receiver on the field. Devin McCourty will be allowed to operate with freedom over the top, having an opportunity to read the quarterback and make plays. Jefferson will be in the box to create a 4-3 look out of our 4-2-5 nickel base, and will be covering the tight end primarily.

Get Creative with Pressure- We anticipate that Mack may be out again (though we will have him dressed and ready in case he does play). As a result, we're going to be heavily rotating our defensive linemen and utilizing stunts, twists, and 1 gap responsibilities to generate as much disruption up front as possible.

Summary:
Offensively, we want to limit the potential hits on Andrew Luck, and go with a quick passing game utilizing 3 WRs out of shotgun and pistol primarily. We'll lean on the right side of our line for runs, though we'll sprinkle some counters, draws, and screens to catch the defense off-guard. We'll also take a few deep shots later in the game

Defensively, we line up in man, provide 1 safety over the top to avoid getting burned, and play Tony Jefferson near the line. We'll rotate our defensive line extensively to create as much disruption in the passing game and running game as possible.

Who is WR - MVS

Most Valueable Superfan. Its basically a team-held competition that Berlin hosts each week that gives 1 lucky fan an opportunity to play in a BDL game.

This week's winner is Joe Davies from Frankfurt. Joe is a construction worker by trade, runs a 5.9 flat and enjoys drinking beers with his lads.

I can't even give this a snarky response.

We believe in Joe!

Dion Dawkins versus DeMarcus Lawrence...

Berlin planning to jam the receivers helps negate ICs plan to quick pass to avoid the pass rush. Dawkins versus Lawrence would crush Lucks soul here.

There are some interesting matchups here that would swing the game, Berlin having no depth in the secondary will kill their DBs later in the game. Lawrence would have a feast in this one but IC has a decent counter to that with a RB in to pass protect.
