Kirksey and Gaines done for the season.

Kirksey has been a disappointment this season, but it still sucks to lose him. Now we're down two starting LBs until Schobert comes back. Gaines is solid, but he cannot stay healthy. Only way he returns next season is if he signs another team-friendly contract.

That doesn't include the kid that broke his arm a couple weeks ago, either.

Unless you have a true thoroughbred at linebacker the position is of least importance in todays NFL. I really don't have a problem with the way our linebackers have played this year aside from Jamie Collins clear lack of effort. You need offense, guys who can get to the passer and guys who can cover. You don't really need to have great linebackers anymore. Obviously if there is a Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis, Junior Seau type guy available to then obviously they can be a difference maker, but those types a very rare. Hell even Luke Kuechley with his concussion issues last year and the year before the Carolina defense didn't suffer an enormous set back when he was out.

Yeah kirksey has been a major disappointment this year IMO. LB only worth keeping it Joe

The thing that's not mentioned as much though is Kirksey is a leader in the locker room.

I agree his play has been suspect, but he has a lot of value.

Meh, you can find plenty of other leaders, plus players respect actions more than talk. Kirksey = Not AFC North type of player

If we need leaders, rather go the stanton route and just sign a great locker room depth guy to do that. Might be a great leader but he is leaving a lot on the field to be desired. Hopefully it was just a down year for him

You need to have OLBs that can at Least make the play on the run. Browns have been getting destroyed with off tackle and outside run plays. Mean safeties have been struggling filling the ally and OLBs struggling to track and making a play. Schobert has been darn good in the middle. It’s the outside guys who have sucked

Collins has given ridiculously bad effort and Garrett has been trash against the run. Ogbah has also taken a huge step back against the run. Don't try to blame the bad run defense on just the OLB because our prized possession #1 overall pick has been awful doing his job. There are some who are anti Jadeveon Clowney because he seems to be one dimensional even though he is by far the best in the NFL at that one thing. Right now Myles Garrett is even more one dimensional than Clowney.
