Whicker
Offense Running game – Saquon will again lead the way for the Nightmarchers as we plan to keep rolling through the Ospreys. With Decker now a couple weeks into the fold we can finally start using the TE as a weapon again. First, Watson will be moved to the left side of the line as an additional blocker to help Saquon break loose. Kansas City has been gashed in the run game this year giving up a league worst 5.2 yards per carry, the biggest culprit for that is Alan Bailey. We’re going to attack the left side of the line religiously and Clay Matthews the 95th best edge player against the run won’t be able to help as we plan on shifting the line that way using Watson to provide a hole on the edge. We’re also going to use our RBs heavily in the passing game, using motions to empty the backfield forcing coverage mismatches for us to exploit. Cohen isn't in the starting line-up but will get a healthy amount of snaps with a handful of targets in the passing game. If Orlando does not leave a player in to spy we’ll allow DangeRuss the green light to pick up first down yardage. Passing game – In the passing game we plan to exploit coverages by using different personnel packages to find the weaknesses in coverage. Overall the goal will be to spread the defense thin. AB and Gordon will remain outside and get a couple of tough assignments against Ramsey and Alexander, Kirk will play the slot and will get the mismatch against Bradberry or King who are both boundary CBs that can't match the speed of Kirk. They will all still see a handful of targets, especially if the safeties come down in the box leaving the deep third open. As mentioned earlier we plan on using different personnel packages suck as empty backfield, double TE, and even 4 wide. The real bread and butter of our offense will be out of the slots. Kirk (and Tre’Quan Smith in 4 wide) working against Bradberry or King will be big mismatches in our favor. When we send both Watson and Barkely both wide one of them will get Wagner but the other should feast against Davis or Gipson in coverage. We are confident in our ability to gain yardage outside the tackles in both the run game and the slot passing game. Defense DL/LB – For the second week healthy we will increase the reps for Ansah and give him the start on the edge. We’ll regularly rotate in Clark and Landry to keep the edges fresh to make sure we’re getting to Rivers. Buckner and Rankins (#14 DT against the run, for those that hate on him) will provide inside pressure. We’re expecting interior match-up win for Buckner against Ragnow and wins for the Ansah/Clark rotation against Lane Johnson who has been in and out of the last two games and is admittedly not 100%. At LB we’re taking Marshall off the field for the first time this season because we want our best coverage guys on the field and KJ Wright and Roquon Smith should provide a solid middle of the field presence to counter Kamara and Smith/Gesicki. KJ will be a Kamara shadow in this game as we respect what he can do either between the tackles or as a receiver. Secondary – The secondary has a tall task this week against OBJ, Evans, and Shepard. We will be featuring a base nickel, cover 2 zone. The goal of the secondary is to keep the play in front of them. Lattimore and Hayward will play off coverage on the boundary with Williams covering Shepard in the slot. McCain will come in dime coverage if they go 4 wide. Weddle and Swearinger will stay in the deep third to keep the plays in front of them and limit any deep passes. We respect the ability of Rivers and their pass catchers but we think that our CBs breaking on the balls and swarming tackles will limit the points they can put up. TL;DR – On offense we think we can gain big yardage attaching their defensive left side and working the slot against their depth CBs or secondary defenders (2nd LB/2nd Safety). On defense we will feature a heavy DL rotation to keep after Rivers, spy Kamara, and play off coverage with deep safeties to limit any big plays from OBJ or Evans. Game Plan Offense Scheme: Balanced Formations: Single back 3 Wide / I-form (2 TE) / Shotgun Offensive Line: Gronk is inactive again this week, which really sucks because his injury came at a time where if the media had said that it was more serious than it was claimed to be I would have likely added some better depth. Not that the guys I've got listed as depth are junk but they aren't pass catchers but more of run blockers, so that's how they'll be used today. Simply on the field protecting Rivers. Hawaii has a good group of pass rushers, in Clowney and Clark and some decent depth. Ansah has been a disappointment this year, but all the same having the additional protection on the edge will help secure the line. Passing: This week, we get our big name receivers in Odell and Mike Evans going deep, providing the added offensive line protection holds up, if not we'll pull them in on crossing routes, post and sideline. We feel that our receivers match up well against their secondary and that we can win most of those battles. We'll use Sheppard and his hands on shallow routes to keep the safeties from getting too deep in coverage. A. Kamara will be used more in the passing game this week relieving Sheppard as the slot receiver but primarily out of the RB spot. We'll use him to chip the edge to provide additional support while our two main targets out wide fight to get open, while being the underneath pass catcher on delayed screens, wheel routes and on inside short slants. We'll get Rivers doing some play action passing to Odell on some varied distance post routes, depending on zone coverage and where the safeties are playing. Rushing: Our backup rushers keep improving so we feel comfortable using them to rush when Kamara is playing the slot. As mentioned we'll run a balanced offense this week so expect our running game to get their turn this week to score points. Using the I-form two TE set, we'll use motion of our TE's to load up heavy to one side and pound the rock with our depth, tossing in the counter and play action to keep the defense honest. Using Kamara as our speed back, he'll be assigned to running sweeps and tosses to the outside as well as following the pulling guard between the tackles. Defense Scheme: 34 / 335 defenses Man Coverage Hawaii has a high powered offense so stopping it all is a tough task, so we'll focus on stopping the running game, actually stopping Saquon Barkley whether he is running or catching as he's fantastic at both. Rushing: Barkley has proven he doesn't need depth to give him a break, which is good because outside of him, the depth of this teams running game is below average, when looking at their stats. Nonetheless, Barkley has shown that he can win games by himself. In the running game, we want to play conservative football while focusing on containment, gap assignment and simply not over pursuing. Our edge rushers will focus on limiting the runs to the outside, while our defensive INT will push the pile in an attempt to disrupt the running lanes inside with Bobby Wagner sealing up any holes inside. Passing: Coverage Assignments Antonio Brown = Jalen Ramsey / Doubled w/ Eddie Jackson Josh Gordon = Kevin King Stefon Diggs = Jaire Alexander 4th and 5th Wide Receivers will be assigned to James Bradberry and safety support. Barkley = Demario Davis / Doubled w/ Tashaun Gipson As mentioned, with Russell Wilson, we don't want to play over aggressive in pass rushing him but rather containment on the edge and a strong push from the interior. Davis will be assigned to mirror Barkley with Gipson playing just outside the box tracking him on deeper routes while playing a soft zone over the middle. We'll respect the power of AB and provide double coverage going single coverage against the rest of his receivers. Apologies for the game plan coming in late today. Also Happy Veterans Day.
