Long Beach Leprechauns

Gameplan Offense:

We want to control the clock against Rome. They have a high powered offense and we want to keep them off the field. We believe we can run the ball successfully on this defense. We will still incorporate our 3 wide Sets and utilize our dominant passing game.

Run Game:

We will feature a two back offense this week. Janovich who has been a huge reason for the successful Broncos run game gets a much larger role this week. McCaffrey will split 70/30 run plays with Ingram. We will focus our power run game at Takk McKinley who is a pass rush specialist still in Atlanta and has struggled against the power run game. We will have cutback lanes on the back side of our run. We will not shy away from running at anyone in our zone scheme as we will have multiple run lanes for Mac and Co to choose from. We will still run out of our three wide set as well slashing inside gaps and using stretch plays.

Passing Game:

We will have Kupp and Hopkins as our two outside receivers in our two back sets and they will run a variety of routes all over the field, attacking the sideline but also the middle of the field. Kittle will do his usual damage over the middle. McCaffrey will get out in the flat and see some swings and wheel routes in the passing game, and sometimes will motion out leaving Jano as the only back in the backfield giving us a 3 wide look. Jano will help with pass protection but he can also be a safety net on some dump offs. We will often test the safeties by pressing routes down field and using our TE in the middle open up the outside matchups and if the safeties cheat to the outside we will have plenty of open opportunities in the middle of the field for the TE. Against zone blitzes we trust Rodgers to find the open man and pick on the vacated zones.

Defense:

Formation: Nickel, 4-3

We suspect Rome will come out and try and spread us out. We get Trumaine Johnson back this week and Breeland is finally playing. Our secondary has improved from the last few weeks. Nickel against three and four wide sets, walking the SS down against four wide or even against the three wide and one tight. Against the two tight we will bring in a third LBer and take the slot defender off the field.

Coverage:

We will run mostly zone especially against three wide sets. We will roll out a combo of zone and man against their two wide sets. Trumaine will shadow Juju presnap whenever Juju is playing outside but stick to his zone. He will shadow him in man throughout the play. This is to help disguise the coverage. Breeland has the number two outside or his zone. Baker is in the slot. If Baker is not healthy to play Mathieu will move into the slot and TJ McDonald comes in at FS. We will run mostly Cover 3 when we run zone. We will include various blitzes from our LBers and our Slot Corner to force errant throws and add pressure against Brees.

Run Defense:

Gurley is a monster. We have one of if not the best run stopping dlines from the inside out. We pride ourselves in the run defense of our ends and Reader and Reed are cloggers inside freeing up our LBers. Schobert is healthy enough to play will come in as the third LBer against the two tight formation. Collins will line up in the box to add an extra defender against that run game. As good as Gurley is their interior oline isn’t that strong. We believe we can control this game by stopping their run. We want to funnel Gurley inside and make sure we contain our gaps especially with our ends outside. Collins will have outside contain on his side allowing his end to play straight up and contain his gap. The other end will have outside contain and the SLB will have the C gap (Either Schobert or Campbell).

Rome Eternals

Intangible

The long Beach gm this morning went to the press and said his team has no chance.  That has to be disheartening to hear for the players

Offense

This week we welcome in a se big boys out as Cuba occasionally doesn't carry any extra big boys inside and instead pushes starter Campbell to the interior

We are generally going to be putting Howard or Gurley in motion out wide to determine coverage.  Neither brown or Williamson show much in coverage so if we can get some one on one's there we plan to exploit it .  If Gurley gets one on one with any lb, expect some wheel routes to him.

On the outside da beach gets back trunaine Johnson this week but he's hobbled and hasn't looked like his normal self all year.  I guess ej Gaines is on the opposite side as honey badger and Mathieu are slot corners. We plan on attacking him early and often. Baker has shown well inside but we won't hesitate to go his way if the match up calls for it.  None of our wr have a set position as we are gonna work then all over the field and formations to get match ups we like

Gurley is gonna get about 20 touches with a lot of running to the edges using our stud tackles.  Expect a lot of power os to the left with Smith being the pull lead blocker from his guard position.   We recognize the strength of the of the Cuba line and won't test them often. We are gonna use stretches power os and tosses to get Gurley and our other RB in space.

We will rotate in mack on early downs and Lindsay on third downs occasionally to give Gurley a break.  We even have a short yardage package with two te and a fb

Up front we trust our tackles one on one we are gonna watch out for blitzes with our guards.  In a blitz situation Brees will hit his hot route who he's probably already looking at anyhow.

As always Brees has control of offense and will audible for zone coverage to seams floods and seams.  If anyone is dumb enough to try zone against Brees, more power to them

Tl/Dr.  Attack the lb and boundary corners in passing game..  Get outside in run game. Move the chains

Defense

Long Beach possesses a very talented offense and it is not one easily game planned against

Long Beach generally enjoys rushing to the outside so we feel we can go with a unique strategy when McCaffery is in as the lineup above shows.  The beach line is not known for its run blocking so we are gonna dare them to run up the gut where we feel we have an advantage. We have a man assigned to McCaffrey this week and he literally will have nothing other responsibilities beside RB

For coverage we realize Hopkins is a threat so we are using amukama against him with constants help over the top.  Jackson will get the wr on the opposite outside while nrc gets the slot. We are taking out mosley this week to get even more athletic.  Humphrey is gonna get the McCaffrey assignment while lve uses his athleticism against kitle up the middle. Milano is the wild card as he has the freedom to bltiz or play a middle zone as long Beach likes to use Kittle and Kupp to attack the middle of the field

On plays where Ingram is in, Jackson will come off for moseley who will get the Ingram assignment while Humphrey flexes out wide.  Power formations will see Williams in for nrc in the box with Tomlinson in for ioannidus

We will rotate in Fowler and Tomlinson in on the regular while using our Nascar formation on long distance with Dunlap flipping inside for brockers with ekuban getting a little run from the edge

It's Aaron rushers so we won't use much zone but will sprinkle it in to keep the defense honest with some regular cover three and blitzes out of the zone looks

Tl/dr

Defend outside runs.  Eliminate Hopkins and the middle of the field

He's playing man while in zone?  What

It means he lines up across from him on every play unless he is in the slot regardless of man or zone. I was half asleep when I typed that.

So 2 Cuba references in Rome gameplan plus attacking a corner on IR. On the other side Schobert is referenced twice while not in the line-up.

Going Rome but barely. LB has (had?) an awesome offense that can execute the gameplan. I think Rome D has a hard time stopping it. On the opposite, Brees right now vs zone with a clear pocket? Just too hard to bit imho. LB has to do too much to hide their deficiencies in pass D and Brees makes them pay. 35-31 Rome
