Upcoming Extensions, Options, and Free Agents

I thought looking at upcoming serious contracts would be an interesting exercise as we obviously have a very new cap reality with the addition of Khalil Mack.

Gone are the years where the Bears can afford to sign all of their free agents and be active in the free agent market. The rising cap will help, but there are some tougher decisions over the next 2 years as we approach a new CBA after 2020.

2019

CB Bryce Callahan
S Adrian Amos
Leonard Floyd*Option year
DE Roy Robertson-Harris [RFA]

Extension Eligible

Cody Whitehair
Jordan Howard

2020

Leonard Floyd
Cody Whitehair
Jordan Howard
Danny Trevathan
QB Mitch Trubisky *Option Year

Extension Eligible

Tarik Cohen
Eddie Jackson
Adam Shaheen

2021

Allen Robinson
Prince Amukamara
Tarik Cohen
Eddie Jackson
Adam Shaheen
LB Roquan Smith *5th year Option

Extension Eligible

James Daniels
Anthony Miller
Bilal Nichols

The CBA is going to be a massive help as I expect the cap to take a big leap forward...like $30-$35 million...

I think the key is keep drafting well and pay your own then we don't need to be active in the free agency market...certainly not at the top end.

2019 we have no money

2020 we have a ton of guys to re-sign

So there is a good chance our days of exciting first days of free agency are over for a good long while. I am okay with that.

We may get comp picks in 2020, that would be the first time in a decade.

That's where we needed to get. Can't totally shut it down in free agency though like the Packers did for years. Resigning Callahan is at the top of my list before any other considerations.

2019 you have 19 million in cap and have to sign:  Massie, Callahan, Amos and RRH.

Priority?

1. Callahan

2. Massie

3. Amos

4. RRH

5. Pat O'Donnell

Who are other free agents at corner, OT and DL?

I wouldn't say we have no money in 2019...plenty can be done with that roster to create cap space...if the Saints & Steelers can be so tight to the cap year in year out there is no reason we can't.

Is that your opinion or did he see that some where?  I have no clue so just asking.

Isn't that such a great feeling?  I love drafting so well we get comp picks.

In this case me.

Three weeks into this season, they didn’t have Mack as a top NFL defender.

Last season, they had Amos as the league’s best SS.

Last week, they said Trubisky is the least valuable player at his position.

They don’t have Roquan as one of the better rookies in football.

And you care how they rank the NFL’s right tackles? Suit yourself.
