Realistically I think he plays into the 3rd. He needs as many reps as possible but we still need to see what our other young receivers can bring to the table.

Fair enough however at this point I'm more interested in seeing how our 1st round pick from a year ago does against outside competition. I'd be happy if he played through the 3rd.

are the 49ers expected to be one of the worst teams this year?

Definitely. Overall, I think we are one of the most talent deprived teams in the NFL. As fans, we are excited about the draft we just had, but thinking that a bunch of rookies are going to come in and light it up is just unrealistic. We are bullish on our future under Shanny and Lynch, but most of us expect 3-4 wins this year.

Might sound crazy to some but this actually might be one of the Vikings toughest tasks of the preseason for the offensive line.

This Sunday they will be going up against players like Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, Solomon Thomas, Ahmad Brooks, Navarro Bowman, and Rueben Foster. Their depth is also very solid with Elvis Dumervil, Chris Jones, DJ Jones, and Brock Coyle.

Some of the more intriguing match-up with this amount of speed and strength. If we can get something of a running game going this week, I actually believe it will be a huge step forward. Really the only aspect of the game I may be interested in even if they aren't running complex plays or formations.

Side Note: We get to see the return of Brandon Fusco to Minnesota. Hopefully we eat him up.

i don't think you are super far off base with this. Our front 7 is pretty legit right now. We lack a true pass rushing specialist, but we can collapse a pocket and put on some pressure from that defensive line. Buckner is a stud. Armstead's biggest issue has been health, but when he's been on the field, he's been super efficient in his pass rushing. Thomas doesn't have the true pass rushing prowess down yet, but he's stout against the run. He's rotating with Tank Carradine, who has played very well this preseason since moving to his natural position, and he's the more pass rushing type for that rotation. Earl Mitchell has played very well, also. Granted, he's just a space eating NT, so you're not going to see him getting to the quarterback, but it's a vital cog.

The linebackers have talent, but there is certainly some hit and miss there. Bowman isn't the same, but he's still very good. Foster still has some rookie lapses.

Looking at your schedule, that's a fair assessment...without Jeff Fisher with the Rams now, you should be able to split with them and you should be able to be beat Jax at home and maybe the Bears at Soldier Field...and there may be a surprise or 2 along the way.
