Offense

This week we welcome in division rival Berlin.  Berlin comes in with a solid d line but a secondary that may have the least amount of depth in the league.

Due to trades and other decisions, Berlin only has three active corners so we are gonna open the the game in four wide.  Now we expect Berlin because of their lack of depth to be playing a lot of zones so we are gonna use a lot of trips formation to beat it with flood seams and combo routes to attack the holes in the zone. We have complete faith in Brees to make the right decision.

We will generally open up the formation with two wr on both sides and bring one to the wide side of the field.  This motion will also let us know when Berlin is in man as we like the majority of our match-ups and will attack any non Hilton member trying to play coverage.

Up front we recognize the need for possible help and if we see zone Gurley will often read for a blitz before going out on his route chipping an edge on his way.  Berlin's strength is their edge rushers but the best tackle tandem in bdl is in Rome to help neutralize that threat

Gurley is gonna get about 20 touches between the passing and running game.  We are gonna use a fair amount of draw plays to slow down the edge rushers and get the lbs moving backwards first.  We also are going to incorporate more screens (especially to the right athletic side of the line) as an extension of the running game against zones

We will rotate in mack on early downs and Lindsay on third downs occasionally to give Gurley a break.  We even have a short yardage package with two te and a fb

Up front we trust our tackles one on one we are gonna watch out for blitzes with our guards.  In a blitz situation Brees will hit his hot route who he's probably already looking at anyhow.

Tl/Dr.  Attack the secondary.  Motion to gauge coverage, trip formations to beat zones.  Screens and draws with Gurley to get him in space

Defense

Berlin brings in one of the leagues most explosive players in tyreek Hill.

Berlin likes to put hill in the slot which is fine for us as Robley Coleman has been one of the best slot corners in the league for a couple years.  That's not to say he's not gonna have help. Hill is gonna get double teamed with help over the top every play by whichever safety is on the side he lines up on.

On the outside we have Marlon Humphrey on Golladay and Amukamara on mvs or whoever else lines up there.  Jackson is the fourth corner with Jenkins available for five wide

We will be playing majority man this game as we feel we can win the one on ones in coverage.  Both our LB are fantastic against the run and pass. We won't assign them to a particular player but will cover the te on their side while the other gets the RB.  Leftover safety plays centerfield

Up front we will have Ebukan in on early downs with Fowler in on passing downs on one edge while Dunlap gets the other.  We are gonna slide our d line towards the offense left as that side of the Berlin line is not playing well. Tomlinson provides the beef while ioannidis provides interior pressure rotating with Brockers when we need more beef. Alualu and Takk will provide quality depth.

We will mix in some zones and blitzes with zone to keep keenum guessing but mostly will roll with man

Tl/dr

Don't let tyreek beat us.  Take advantage of left side of o line.  Bend don't break, they can't keep up

Offense
TL;DR -  Get the ball to our WRs, move our TEs to get numbers advantages, run when we get a numbers advantage in the box.

3 WR - In our main formation, we are going to go after the CBs of Rome with our WRs.  We will rotate Agholor and Godwin in to keep guys fresh and let them run all over the field.  Rome has some good CBs, but we will not shy away from any of them.  We will let our big outside WRs go up for jump balls, use them on crossing routes, and occasionally throw some screens to them for easy yards.  If Rome just has one single deep safety, we will throw along the sidelines as we think we can win one-on-one.  As always, Tyreek will get a lot of opportunities in every way imaginable.  We will get the ball into his hands quickly and let him do his thing.  Also look for him to get some jet sweeps.  And of course, we will air it out to him deep even if he is double or triple teamed.

Look for us to flex Burton out into the slot a lot to pull a LB or S out of the box.  We will use him as a blocker for WR screens and let him use his size and athleticism to beat whoever has him in man coverage.

With a lighter box, we will run Lamar 15-20 times to keep the defense honest.  Look for a mix of standard runs and draws to force their DL to play the run.  Clement will rotate in typically on 3rd down.  We will also roll Keenum out a fair bit where he is at his best.

4 WR/RB and 5 WR - We will mix in these formations about 10 plays each and during hurry up.  We want to stress the secondary of Rome beyond what they can handle.  We will layer our routes as usual because we don’t think they can cover our guys for very long.  In the 4 WR set, we will sprinkle in draws and screens to Lamar to keep their DL off balance.

2 TE - With Shaheen returning this week, we will use a 2 TE set about 20 plays.  If they have 3 LBs, Burton will flex to the slot for a matchup advantage.  If they keep an extra DB on the field, Burton will flex into the backfield as an H-Back.  We will run more from this formation and then go PA and bootlegs to get Keenum moving.

Defense

TL;DR - Double Juju, double Gurley, make the other guys beat us.

We need to get pressure on Brees to have a chance, and we think our starting DL is up to the challenge.  We will rotate our DL as much as needed to keep our main guys fresh.

3 WR - Conley takes Cooper, Alford takes Juju, and Hilton takes Edelman.  Kazee will sit deep over Juju to bracket him so he can’t beat us deep.  We will let Conley and Hilton battle it out with the other two WRs.  Conley gets hate, but he hasn’t given up a 3rd down pass all season.  And Edelman v Hilton is very even.

Haha plays up in the box to help in the run game and takes the TE.

Both our LBs will be watching Gurley on every play.  We want to shut down their run game and make sure Gurley doesn’t beat us in the passing game.  If Gurley stays in to block, we will have one LB blitz while the other sits in a middle zone.

2 TE - If they go two TE, then Kiko comes in for a CB.  He will replace the CB for whichever WR comes out.  Kazee will sit deep to Juju’s side assuming he is in.  If Juju is out and Cooper and Edelman are in, he will sit deep to Cooper’s side.

Kiko will take Howard in coverage and Haha will play up in the box to take Reed.

Tremaine and Rashaan’s responsibilities will stay the same.

4 WR - If they go 4 WR, Haha will play up and take the 4th WR.  Everything else would stay the same.

Performance - Rome; Game Plan - Rome; Matchup - Rome

Rome takes it's shortest trip of the season and beats a rebuilding Berlin. 28-17

Losing O.J. Howard for the year will come back to haunt them later in the season so the Berlin curse lives.

While I think going 4Wide was a decent call versus a limited secondary, they leave Brees open to get clobbered by a ferocious pass rush. Berlins WRs are also solid. I would love to have Hill and Goll Berlin in a stunner.
