I think this seems...reasonable at a high level. Paxton is really talented, but a huge injury concern. Sheffield is a really good prospect, but risky and he's the only important piece coming back.

Also a dominant lefty which is nice.  Haven't had that since CC was fat.

He's pitched 160 innings just once.  Lots of injury history for a 30 year old guy too.  So the Yankees have two options- let it ride with him and get what they can, or manage him like a 4-5 starter to get the most out of his innings.  Of all the starting pitchers who could be available via trade, Paxton was at the bottom of my list.

I would have taken this deal for MadBum. Of course...slightly different contract situations there.

That's it?  Is it just me, or does this seem light?  Seems like the secondary pieces needed to be stronger.  Risky deal for the Yankees though.

Can’t make a deal like this without any risk, though. Pitching prospects themselves are risky af anyway and I’m never against cashing chips for a guy who’s already established.

FYI I was very much a proponent of the Pomeranz deal a few years ago.
