Re-Sign Players

QB B Gradkowski (75) - 3 years, $3.86 mil, $630k bonus - young cheap option at QB

QB P Ramsey  (77) - no offer

QB B Bollinger (73) - no offer

HB J Harrison (75) - no offer

FB B Askew (75) - no offer

WR D Ridgeway (69) - no offer

TE D Jolley (80) - 3 years, $5,17 mil, $780k bonus - he's not amazing but seems solid enough to not let walk.

LT A Clement (77) - no offer

RG I Snell (68) - no offer

RG B Moore (84) - 3 years, $9.64 mil, $2.01 mil bonus - he's a solid starter.

LE J Wyche (69) - 1 year, $1.15 mil, $150k bonus - I resigned him because he fits my new 4-3 scheme and he's cheap.

LE M Pope (80) - no offer - idk about this one, he's 29 and not a scheme fit. I guess I could resign and move to DT, but I think its just better to let him walk.

ROLB B Thomas (72) - no offer

P B Graham (84) - no offer

Free Agency

My free agency plan is to look for young affordable long term pieces to add, but I won't shy away from young stars in their prime if I think they are worth it.  I'm not looking for anyone over 30 years old for sure.

I do have a substantial $33 mil in cap penalties from all the trades I made, so I can't really go crazy in this free agency period.

LE Robert Mathis (90), 26 years old - 5 years, $50 mil, $8.0 mil signing bonus - star player in his prime, he can be the cornerstone of my new 4-3 defense.

CB Roderick Hood (25), 25 years old - 3 years, $12 mil, $3.50 mil signing bonus - solid CB for my secondary.

NFL Draft

There's very little information for me to use going into this draft, as this is before Madden developed their scouting system.  I know one thing, I refuse to pay pre-rookie payscale #1 money.  So I'm trading down from #1 no matter what simply because of the cost.  The problem with trading down is that I can't pick up future draft picks (because that doesn't exist in 2007 Madden).

The only problem with that theory is there's only one prospect that I think is worthy of the #1 or #2 pick, which I have both.  He has a ridiculous name, William Williams.  But he's also a 6'5" 290 lb DE that I think can bookend Mathis very well.  So I bit the salary bullet and take him #1:

With the #1 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

DE William Williams

Williams will be a leader on my new 4-3 defense.

I can't afford the #1 and #2 picks, so I have to trade down now:

*TRADE*

Browns Receive

#1 overall

Jets Receive

#6 overall

TE Kellen Winslow (85)

Winslow is a semi-bust at this point but he's a solid pickup for my offense, plus just dropping from #2 to #6 saves me a ton of money.

*TRADE*

Bears Receive

#6 overall pick

6th round pick

Jets Receive

#10 overall pick

4th round pick

Just cutting more cost with this first round pick signing, also picked up a 4th here.

*TRADE*

Vikings Receive

DT Dewayne Robertson (80)

5th Round pick

Jets Receive

3rd Round Pick

I had to shed some salary, because I'm in a tight spot to sign all my draft picks.  Robertson was the most expensive player on my roster this year and had already been assigned the Bust role by the computer.   I had to throw in the 5th round pick because of the stupid Madden only 10 picks rule.  This trade is basically a salary dump.

With the #10 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

SS Justin Chapman

My plan is to shore up the defense first, Chapman looks like a great prospect at safety to help my secondary.

With the #12 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

CB Peter Forest

More secondary talent, this guy ran a 4.29 at the combine.

Time to sim to my next picks in the 2nd.

With the #33 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

RE Sammy Cote

Cote has the highest amount of bench reps in the draft, and he's 6'6" 306 lbs.  I'm going to move him to DT.

With the #44 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

QB Travis Sheth

I need someone to groom at QB, and Sheth is 6'7" and rated as a 1st-2nd round prospect.

With the #61 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

WR JT Dutton

He's only 5'10", but he has 4.23 40 time speed.

3rd Round is starting:

With the #63 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

OT Thomas Johnson

I need help at RT, and Johnson has good bench reps.

With the #86 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

HB Craig Chapman

Need another body at RB, heck Chapman may start.

4th Round Starts:

With the #97 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

DT Peter Huey

After dumping Robertson need more depth.

With the #106 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the New York Jets select:

LG Dee Lewis

Depth for the Oline.

Draft Pick Signing

Pick 1 - RE W Williams - 7 years, $65.94 mil, $16 mil bonus - 88 OVR - expensive but looks like a stud.

- 6'5", 290 lbs, 64 SPD, 90 STR, 96 ACC, 72 TAK, 68 AWR - I wish his speed was a little higher but he has elite strength and acceleration.

Pick 10 - SS Justin Chapman - 7 years, $18.13 mil, 2.03 mil bonus - 82 OVR - solid with good speed.

- 6'0" 208 lbs, 92 SPD, 88 AG, 88 ACC, 72 CTH, 77 TAK, 66 AWR - He has good speed and a decent catch rating.  Solid tackler too.

Pick 12 - CB Peter Forrest - 5 years, $35.95 mil, $6.35 mil bonus - 83 OVR - another expensive deal, but looks like elite talent with speed.

- 5'11" 195 lbs, 95 SPD, 95 AG, 93 ACC, 70 CTH, 59 TAK, 71 AWR - High end athlete, but needs to work on tackling.  Should be good in coverage right away.

Pick 33 - RE/DT Sammy Cote - 5 years, $26.20 mil, $4.25 mil bonus - 82 OVR (as DE) - has good strength, should be good DT convert.

- 6'6" 306 lbs, 69 SPD, 89 STR, 83 ACC, 71 TAK, 59 AWR - his awareness took a hit when I changed his position.  Needs to work on tackling too.

Pick 44 - QB Travis Sheth - 5 years, $22.50 mil, $4.50 mil bonus - 81 OVR - Great arm with 96 TP, will probably start right away.

- 6'7" 235 lbs, 61 SPD, 54 ACC, 74 AWR, 96 TP, 83 TA - Big armed pocket passer.

Pick 61 - WR JT Dutton - 3 years, $11.55 mil, $1.92 mil bonus - 79 OVR - 99 freaking speed, but 90 ACC.  Will develop into elite deep threat.

- 5'10" 160 lbs, 99 SPD, 88 AG, 95 ACC, 81 CTH, 67 AWR - I upped his ACC in the preseason drills.  He will be my #1 WR for years.

Pick 65 - LT Thomas Johnson - 3 years, $7.53 mil, $1.26 mil bonus - 79 OVR - 99 freakin Strength.  Holy crap, great RT prospect.

- 6'7" 319 lbs, 62 SPD, 99 STR, 70 ACC, 83 PB, 76 RB, 74 AWR - Big mauler, needs to work on technique.

Pick 86 - HB Craig Chapman - 3 years, $5.61 mil, $1.02 mil bonus - 78 OVR - looks like a solid back.

- 5'11" 228 lbs, 90 SPD, 77 STR, 89 AG, 85 ACC, 70 CAR, 59 AWR - good size, but pretty average all around.  May be a career backup if I draft someone better next year.  Will probably start Year 1 though.

Pick 97 - DT Peter Huey - 3 years, $6.93 mil, $1.41 mil bonus - 77 OVR - great size at 6'5" 333 lbs.

- 6'5" 333 lbs, 67 SPD, 87 STR, 80 ACC, 75 TAK, 58 AWR - great size, should be a good run stuffer.

Pick 106 - LG Dee Lewis - 3 years, $3.45 mil, $660k bonus - 75 OVR - 99 Strength, great developmental backup.

- 6'3" 298 lbs, 50 SPD, 99 STR, 68 ACC, 81 PB, 76 RB, 68 AWR - slow mauler, looks like a good backup.

*TRADE*

Lions Receive

Laveraneus Coles (89)

Jets Receive

1st Round Pick

According to the game Coles is a solid player.  However, he's 29 years old, and as a IRL fan of the Redskins I can't stand him because he was a punk with us.  He's getting dumped.

You're getting a lot of firsts for guys who are old af.

Also, I forgot how highly rated everyone was back then. 😂

Ya old school madden trade logic is awesome.

Also I might have to end up dumping some of the picks because I can't afford all of these first rounders with the old rookie pay scale.
