Mahomes got passed on by more teams than just us, and who knows how he or others would have progressed outside of their situations. Not going to argue with points above, I definitely don't agree with your Fournette take or a lot of your others. Either way, these past two drafts are way too early to judge and in 2017 they found 2-3 long term starters potentially and a potential 1-2 solid depth pieces. This year there's upside for similar. If you do that as a GM that's considered a success, not "terrible". In hindsight I still feel that with a capable QB we could have won that football game Blake turned the ball over in the red zone twice that game. It just goes to show how far this franchise has fallen in a short period of time.

Plus the whole, just recently arrived recently thing @.Buzz mentioned. He wasn't here for the disastrous Bortle drafting that's hamstrung this team for years. He wasn't here for all those other whiffed 1st rounders. Wasn't here for all those years of handing out massive contracts to complete bust Free Agents. Keeping Gus for half a decade, etc. That all falls significantly more on Dave Caldwell. He's got a much longer record of failure behind his tenure here, outside of last year's breakout. He's had 6 years here, and only 1 of them was good. He's batting like sub-20% range. Whereas Coughlin has been back for a couple years and one of them went very well, so he's batting more like 50%. That's what exempts him from sharing quite the same amount of blame as Caldwell at this point at least.

One has been here for 5 years and was apart of hiring one of the worst HC's of all time and drafting a bust of a QB and largely had bad drafts. The other has been here two years and one of the years we went to the AFCC game. Much longer leash for someone with less time overseeing things. Just not enough to fire him right now. Plus it's Tom Coughlin...he's seen pretty highly for better or worse. Not going to get canned two years into his time here unless both years were diastrous. .Buzz
I mean, we all had to know this. Still an extreme detrment to TC if so. Caldwell has not been good enough to allow him the reigns to have that much authority imo. Still chalk up past drafts to TC and not Caldwell either way...but hopefully this is true and Caldwell is canned and we get a brighter mind there and/or TC takes a bigger responsibility in scouting/drafting.
