How To Fix The Rockets Thread

The Rockets need to get out of the Tax this season, that way we are not in danger of the repeater tax any time soon. This can be accomplished without too much headache.

We just need a team to take Chriss a in exchange for some non guaranteed money. This should be fairly simple, as hes only owed 3 million and we can pay a team 3 million to take him(which is our limit). Second step is to get someone to take Melo. This again shouldnt be too hard if we attach a 2nd round pick to him. I dont see why any non tax team wouldnt want a free 2nd rounder to get to waive Melo.

That saves us 4.7 million fairly easily and drops us to 4.3 million over the tax. We can waive MCW and save another million. That gets us to 3.3. This is where it gets a little tricky and could hurt us in the future, but still be worth it. We have to either attach a 1st and trade Knight for someone on a slightly better deal....like say get a team to send us an 8 million a year deal instead of knights 14 million. I think a team might be willing to do this for a 1st round pick.....but lets say for arguments sake that no one wants to help us out.

We have two options for stretch Waiving Knight. the 3 year stretch gets his salarly down to 10 million per, which in this case gets us out of the tax, but not enough as we would still need to fill some roster spots. The 5 year stretch hurts, but gets his number down to 6 million....for the next 5 seasons.

This would put us under the tax by about 4.7 million, and leaves us with about 4 roster spots to fill with that money. We would sign House and Edwards to very small deals, as opposed to the two way deals, and then we would have two vet minimums to spend on the buy out market....or possibly take a player back in deal for one of the other guys.

Avoiding the tax in future seasons will not be possible, but if we can avoid it this year, it puts the repeater tax way down the road, enough so that we are at the end of CP3's max deal when it arrives, and that season we currently just have 3 guys under contract, and if we arent able to compete then we can easily avoid the tax that season all together.

Also none of this mentions that Capelas cap hit is going to go down if his numbers hold and we dont make the conference finals.

Now should a deal arise like the one with Atlanta where we send KNight for Bazemore, that blows our chance of getting out of the tax, but would be worth it on the court, and honestly who cares about two years from now, when we need to go now.
