This trade is dumb for us.

We take two bad contracts for a heavily protected 1st rounder starting 2021.

I wouldve waited around til the trade deadline. Maybe some team realizes its time to dump salary for a big time FA next off season

does this give the bucks cap space they can use or is it to get below the tax line?

Assuming we waive Hill before July, Middleton opts out and we don't bring back any of our other non-guaranteed deals, we only have $55 Million committed with another $7.5 Million in dead cap. So, if we renounce everyone, we have a ton of space. Only problem is...if we renounced everyone, we'd have Giannis and trash. So this was to clear room to probably pay everyone (Bledsoe, Brogdon, Lopez and Middleton) and keep the core group together.

Or...

We could go after the pipe dream of KD and Giannis.

or...

Kawhi and Giannis.

Wood, Giannis, KD, Pat, Brogdon as the starting 5 and DJ the 6th man

Make it happen TT

With Sterling Brown developing, I'd almost rather disperse the Middleton money to Bledsoe, Brogdon and Lopez and try to trade Midds for a young asset.

Don't get me wrong, if we bring Midds back, I wont be upset at all. He'll get that Kyrie money and get paid for what he offers in the playoffs.

For the purpose of this deal, I think this is a good breakdown of what our plan is. We're not going KD chasing or anything like that. This is a post from slos over on RealGM that breaks down the process. Of course, it all hinges on whether or not Middleton would take 5/125.

If that Cleveland trade was made just to keep the team together and avoid the tax, it seems that there are around 53,5 mil available to resign Middleton, Bledsoe and Brogdon. That's assuming you cut only Hill and Smith, sign your 1st, keep Lopez with the full MLE and sign a backup PG with the full BAE.

1. Giannis........ 25,8
2. Middleton..... 25
3. Bledsoe....... 16
4. Brogdon....... 12,5
5. Snell........... 11,4
6. Lopez.......... 9,1
7. Ilyasova....... 7
8. Maker.......... 3,7
9. BAE............ 3,6
10. Wilson........ 3
11. DDV........... 2,9
12. 2019 1st..... 2,3
13. Pat........... 1,7
14. Brown....... 1,6
15. Wood........ 1,6
- dead money... 4,8

-total............. 132

It seems doable and promising, since you can have the same team back with an understood Bud's system and two extra players (the pick and the BAE) to bring even more depth in it.
