Where you getting your numbers?

Spotrac. They have his 2018 salary as guaranteed.

If you look at the overall breakdown on OTC, you'll see they mention that McClain got $10.5M in total guarantees, but they only show the 2017 salary and signing bonus. That would make for $3.25M short ... or his 2018 salary.

I'll admit I'm disappointed on McClain I can admit I was wrong . mcgee is a wait and see but mckinight right there signings haven't shown a lot . The only signing that has been pretty good considering has been Phil Taylor who is playing at a very low price and shown good play.

if it was to me our starting DL should be Allen/Taylor/ Matt Lio

I haven't figured that out yet myself.

Woz?

You need to highlight the section you want to quote and then click the "Quote This" floating button. Repeat for each section you want to break up.

So according to overthecap, if we were to cut McClain now, he'd actually save us $234,375 against the cap this year, but would still count $3.5 mil against the cap (he's counting $3,734,375 against the cap now for 2017).

HOLY CRAP YOU CAN CUT AND PASTE OVERTHECAP CHARTS ON THE FORUM NOW

That, however, is pretty damn cool.

Typical NT play 1 tech.  Typical 5-tech plays 3-4 DE.  Typical 3 tech plays pass rushing 4-3 DT.

We signed a 4-3 DT to play in our 3-4 Defense.

Depends on what 3-4 we are running. We run a hybrid/one-gap 3-4 like Wade Phillips developed in Denver/Buffalo in the 80s & 90s and used in Dallas, Houston, Denver and now for the LA Rams.

1-tech is a NT but they one gap, it's used in the 4-3 and in our version of the 3-4 D.

In the "okie" 3-4, all 3 of the DL two-gap, you have two 5-tech DEs & a NT who plays as a zero-tech right over the center.

In our defense we have one two gapping DE when we are in the 3-4 look and that's generally a guy who's taller and has long arms. In 2015 it was Hatcher, last year it was RJF & now it's McGee.

Then we have a 1-tech NT which is going to be Phil Taylor and what Hood played last year. McCalin played this position for Dallas almost every time he was in the field last year for Dallas.

Then, we have a 3-tech, AKA Baker's old position, that's the position that it seems McClain, Hood and Ioannidis are mostly playing but Hood has played some NT and Ioannidis has been moved around also especially in nickle.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6618/terrell-mcclain

Rotoworld has $10.5 mil guaranteed money.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/terrell-mcclain-7784/

Spotrac also has $10.5 mil guaranteed.

https://overthecap.com/player/terrell-mcclain/1687

So does Overthecap.

His 2017 salary is guaranteed, which is $2.25 mil, which per both sites is guaranteed.

His signing bonus of $5.0 mil, which is prorated over 4 years is guaranteed by definition.

That leaves $3.25 mil left of guaranteed, which is his salary in 2018.  Makes sense that it is likely the remaining guaranteed money, so you're probably right @Woz

Maybe McClain can be an off the bench guy which is fine.

That's an incredibly expensive bench guy. Wouldn't it make more sense to give a guy who is cheaper but may have more upside the roster spot?

I agree with you I wouldn't be mad if we released him . But you know it is preseason let's give it some time to see how he performs .

Kind of running out of time on that front

Overthe cap is showing that we can still pro rate his signing bonus even after cutting him though.  Is that legit?  That is why it is showing the dead cap only being $3.5 mil for 2017, and $1.25 mil for 2018-2020.
