Yeah, just looked at the predictions for comp picks for this year and I guess you're right if Spotrac's market value prediction for Tate is accurate.

They have him at the following:

  • 3 yrs, $30,662,703
  • Avg. Salary: $10,220,901

The lowest projected 3rd round comp is usually around the 9 to 10 million range for average per year.

Also, something that I found out researching is that any player with 10 accrued seasons can only get you a 5th rounder no matter how much they sign for....

Luckily for us this was only Tate's 9th accrued season!

Some other market values according to Spotrac...

Brandon Graham:

  • 5 yrs, $79,259,620
  • Avg. Salary: $15,851,924
  • NFL Rank: 42
  • DE Rank: 7

Ronald Darby:

  • 6 yrs, $80,761,776
  • Avg. Salary: $13,460,296
  • NFL Rank: 51
  • CB Rank: 7

Shoot.... those would be definite 3rd round comp picks if they even got somewhat close to those #s.

Imagine signing Darby for 13mil per year.  That would be like handing Byron Maxwell a check for 63 mil
