onejayhawk
5000 yards and 50 TD. Peyton Manning did it in 2013 and just missed 5500/55 (by 23 yards). Marino did 5000/48 and Brady did 4800/50. Until this season, no one else has been close. In fact, only seven seasons have been 4500/45 (Manning twice). Pat Mahomes II is 4800/48 going into the last game. To put that in perspective, only Andrew Luck has 3500/35 this season. That puts Luck in fast company because only 18 players have managed that much. Mahomes did it early in game 14. BayRaider
It’s def impressive and Mahomes is special but let’s also not pretend this hasn’t been the most favorable year for offenses in the history of the NFL with all the rule changes. Teams will adjust next year but this is basically 2011 on steroids. Edited December 28, 2018 by BayRaider

Chiefer
Could be so much more if the defense could get off the field and give Mahomes more opportunities. Hopefully he can repeat this every year. Hes still got the same core group on offense(only losing bottom roster guys). If they can just get that defense shored up. On the flip side, however, if the Chiefs defense was playing better, he likely wouldnt be passing as much late in games as he has to due to the defense playing poorly. Having a bad defense in many cases increases bulk stats. Not a knock on Mahomes, though. He has been amazing this year.

Great defense or terrible. plus more opportunities for Mahomes equals more chances for explosive plays. Defense staying on the field more means less offensive rhythm, and less opportunities to figure out the defense. Malik
Patrick Mahomes isn't even close to leading the league in attempts is the craziest part. The highest he likely ends up is 5th most attempts if he throws the ball 9 times more than Matt Ryan Sunday. He's going to have significantly less attempts than 2011 Brees and 2013 Peyton. I don't think we'll ever see a season match 2004 Peyton when comes to efficiency though. Threw it less than 500 times, but still had 49TDs and 4500 yards. THREE different receivers had 1000+ yards and 10+ TD seasons. Most incredible season of QB I've ever seen.

diamondbull424
Definitely impressive. Patrick Mahomes QB play this season is the closest thing I’ve seen to a prime Peyton Manning. If he continues along this route without sustaining any serious injuries, I think he just might surpass Manning as my new GOAT at the QB position. TecmoSuperJoe
Dang. All those nutty seasons, and zero Super Bowls victories on the back of them.
onejayhawk
Semi-officially it's 5097/50. The 50th was also the longest completion of the season, 89 yards. The long pass also put Mahomes over 5000 yards. Starting from the 11, Mahomes threw deep. Demarcus Robinson caught the ball at midfield while the lone defender fell, allowing Robinson to go for 89 yards and the score. He backpedaled the last 15 yards.
