Sloter was way better than Siemian last pre-season. I also don't think we'll be able to go out and afford an "experienced" #2 QB.

If they can get that player for around $2m like what Keenum was paid here, they could probably make it work.

True. I get your concern about Sloter but at some point we have to let him earn it.

Why do we have too? He's just a third string QB who went undrafted. Most of those types play out the rookie contract or get cut at some point. I'd think Sloter would have to earn it in practice to feel comfortable with him, otherwise, leaning on him as the second QB is a risk without a veteran competing against him.

They've felt comfortable enough with him to protect him from anyone else sniping him by keeping him on the active roster for 2 years.  Plus, they also paid him more than the average 3rd QB to even bring him in here in the first place.  If they thought he was just a run of the mill 3rd QB, they wouldn't have done either of those things.

Either promote him or cut him. There's no reason to hang on someone who's a career 3rd string QB.  They've thought enough of him to steal him from the Broncos, keep him off the practice squad and plus he's played well in the preseason.

I think we all know what we have in Siemian. If he's starting more than 3-4 games, your season is probably down the tubes. We don't know what we have in Sloter. But if he starts more than 3-4 games, he's probably no worse.

Of course, if you're starting Kirk Cousins for 16 games, your season is probably down the tubes too.....couldn't resist.

Anyone have any ideas for our new kicker?

I see a few free agents to be I'd be interested in: Gould, Lambo, Lutz (RFA), Gostkowski, Myers

I think any of those 5 would be a great upgrade but how many are realistic (Lutz isn't)?

I'd love to get Gould. I think he should have been signed in 2017 when we got rid of Walsh. He was 33 of 34 and 27 of 29 in XPs in 14 outdoor games in 2018.

Any chance the Patriots will let Gostowski  go?

I doubt we have the cap space to pry him from New England. He'll probably get a nice deal from NE or a team will over-spend for him

He's fresh off a 4yr/$17.2 mil deal and had an AAV of $4.3 mil last season.

I really want Gould.

Bruce Arians has pretty much indicated that he's going with Winston as his starting QB.  I wonder what this means for Fitzpatrick next season?  As he seems to be okay with moving, I wonder if he would be a possible #2 QB pick up for the Vikings?  It was evident this season that he's still capable of coming off the bench and winning some games.

Please no. Please no FitzMagic.

Don’t re-sign anyone, cut some others, sign Trent Brown to a ridiculous contract, kick Riley Reiff inside, draft a RG in round one or two/

Brown - Reiff - Elflein - Rookie - O’Neill

Okay, going to go to sleep now so I can wake up from my dream.

Wouldn't be a bad scenario but I'd hope that Reiff takes a paycut. Paying him his current salary to make a switch to LG, when we don't know how that would go, could be risky.

There's absolutely no chance that Reiff would take a paycut...and with still having over $6M in dead money on the cap for him, the Vikings don't have enough leverage yet in a negotiation scenario.  2020 would be a better year to consider renegotiating with him, since his cap number goes up and the dead money owed him goes down to ~$4M.

this is the chart from overthecap.com: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/minnesota-vikings/

obviously rudolph and sendejo are the most vulnerable to being cut or restructured since they have no guaranteed money. together they could free up a little more than $13 million. sendejo has a cheap replacement waiting in the wings as harris is a RFA. while david morgan is a great blocked and a reliable catcher, he definitely doesn't fit the TE1 role. i think it's likely sendejo gets cut while rudolph gets restructured (if he agrees to it).

some players had down seasons but will almost definitely be back next season. these are the guys i think are playing to justify the last year of their contract in 2020: griffen, reiff, joseph, rhodes, remmers. remmers is a cut/restructure candidate this season to be honest.

this offseason is a little boring in terms of cuts/restructures but next offseason should be LIT.
