When you fire coaches before end of their contract you still pay the contract albiet often minus whatever they make if they take another job. Still fired HCs don't jump back into HC money usually. Denver fans say they have cash flow issues. Ownership isn't going to be down with firing coaches every two years in perpetuity. Might be a reason they trade Miller too. That and they have a young cheaper player in Chubb playing same position and many other needs to fill and not a lot of money to do it. dll2000
Next Denver coach I think gets at least 4 years regardless of results. I think if it's four more bad years Elway 'retires' as well, they will never publicly fire him.
dll2000
It is kinda weid when same GM is firing coaches every couple of years. It's like when is this your fault?

They have a qb problem and they have shown no ability to solve it. If you trade Von Miller, its going to have the effect of trading Mack, that defense is getting worse not better, and the Chargers and Chiefs are in that division. Then you add the fact that John Elway is your boss regardless of what talent he does or doesnt give you. He has the job as long as he wants bc hes freaking John Elway in Denver. Yeah it's not a good job and wont be until they get Elway out of the big seat.

Now John Elway, who has always been known to have a gigantic ego, thinks he is a good GM and is just going to keep driving that team down the drain

He was smart to let Brock go to Houston. He got gun shy after missing in first round, but that wasn't dumb, most thought that guy was going to be good. After miss he played scared. You have to keep swinging when you are at top of draft and have no QB. Case Keenum signing for somewhat big money was really a dumb move. He hasn't managed cap or contracts situations well at all either.

Is kinda the goal.

Raiders may parlay all these picks into something of note in a couple of years. Raiders had no one good up front so for them losing Mack was drastic. Denver has some good upfront players. Nah. He'll try to quit gracefully if he keeps screwing up. He can cite health or whatever. I agree they will never fire him.

He thinks its everybody else's fault they havent been back and that if he can find someone to just not screw it up he will be right back there. dll2000
Ironically Chubb may have fallen to Bears had Elway gone after QB like he should have. Then Bears don't make the Mack trade and everything is different. I think Colts take Chubb though. Would have made Bears choice between Nelson and Smith interesting. I think Colts don't make playoffs without Nelson so that worked out well for them even tough pass rusher is ostensibly way more valuable. Shoring up that OL did wonders for Indy.

Health issues may actually keep him from working in near future.
