2019 Early Mock Off-Season

I used an off-season generator so I just took what the computer gave me.  I also left to spots open with $20 Million in cap space.  So if you think of a way to improve the team I would like some input.  Thought this would be a fun way to make it more interactive.

There are more RFA and ERFA but only writing about the biggest moves.

FA Name  Year and Garuantee Cap Hit
  Preston Smith 5 years 40% $12,500,000
  Jason Verrett 5 years 40% $12,000,000
  HaHa Clinton-Dix 5 Years 40% $8,000,000
  Dante Fowler Jr. 1 years 100% $7,500,000
  Ja'Wuan James 3 years 67% $6,500,000
  Jared Cook 4 years 50% $5,500,000
  Adam Humphries 4 years 25% $5,500,000
  Daryl Worley Tendered 3rd  $2,000,000

Preston Smith and Fowler on the edges and getting to the QB should not be an issue.  Fowler thinks he is worth more so sign a 1 year prove it deal.

Verrett and Dix shore up the secondary with Joseph and Conley.

James takes care of the RT issue for a couple years while Parker develops or we find other options.

Resigning Cook was a priority and Humphries gives Carr a reliable WR from the slot.  Will look to draft Jordy's counterpart and replacement.

Tendered Worley as an inexpensive 3rd CB with an original round tender.

Now some may say this guy is going earlier or later but I took what was there.

Draft Name  Pick
  Quinnen Williams RD1 (4)
  Devin White  Rd 1 (24)
  D.K. Metcalf  Rd 1 (27)
  Damien Harris  Rd 2 (35)
  Germaine Pratt  Rd 3 (66)
  Cody Ford  Rd 4 (106)
  Darryl Williams  Rd 5 (142)
  Max Scharping  Rd 6 (201)
  L.J. Scott  Rd 7 (220)
  Winston Dimel Rd 7 (239)

1a.  Williams will make this D-line a strength.  He is the type of player that will elevate everyone else's play in the front 7 and command a double team.

1b. Wow.  Dream come true.  White at 25 is a long shot but I will take it.  Sideline to sideline monster that adds everything we are lacking at MLB.  Can also play SLB. only ? is sisengaging from blocks.

1c.  Metcalf is a physical freak on the outside but has a small sample size because of injury.  With keeping the 3rd 1st I decided to take a risk on a super high potential WR.

2. Would have taken Pratt here but wanted Harris more.  Not the fastest but the type you want as your lead back in a 4 minute offense.  Will wear down the defense and really punish them in the 4th.

3.  Pratt - Like I said was more than willing to take in the 2nd and was still there in the third.  Could take him in the second and Montgomery in the third.  Pratt is the WLB we need with great coverage.

4. Ford only started one year but looked great at RT.  Can back up RT/RG his first year.  Surprise here in the 4th.

5. Williams is able to play G/C.  Interior depth is a need and he is capable of becoming a starter.  He is a mauler.

6. Scharping is another position versatile player that can backup multiple positions.  Experience at both tackles but might be better at Guard.

7a. Scott decided to come out but is not highly regarded by a lot of analyst.  Looks like a Bell clone coming out but needs to lose the weight also to be effective.

7b. Dimel is my Zach Crockett.  Hoping the Raiders and Dimel can get back to 2016 form when he had 12 goal line scores.

`I already now we have 1 to many RBs, need another QB, DE, S, and WR.  How would you change out my team and what do you think?

If this were to happen, it would be a 9.9/10.

However sadly that draft is a pipe dream. Good effort though.

I think we are more likely to see Williams at 4 then we are to see White at 25.  There will be a good WR at our 3rd pick in the first though.  White, Pratt, and Ford I believe are the most unrealistic.  What players would you add to round out the roster though?  You have around $15 million to get 3-4 players.

Jason Verrett is injured all the time. Why give him a long term deal with high guarantees? I would only touch him on a prove it deal.

Haha was traded for by the Skins recently...can't see them letting him walk...

The rest I like. The draft seems more like a dream scenario tho...

Thank you for the insight.  Verrett is a risk but if healthy is definitly worth it.  With Ha Ha  the Redskins only gave up a fourth and if we sign him to a big contrat they would get it back or maybe even a 3rd.  Not sure what level it would have to be to qualify.  If they got a 3rd round comp it would be like trading a 2019 4th for a 2020 3rd.  Fair compensation plus you got his services for a year when they thought they were a playoff team.

The draft was a generator so I took the best.  A more realistic but still effective draft off of the top of my head would be:

  Quinnen Williams (4)
  Mack Wilson  Rd 1 (24)
  N''keal Harry  Rd 1 (27)
  Chris Lindstrom  Rd 2 (35)
  Devin Bush  Rd 3 (66)
  David Montgomery Rd 4 (106)
  Darryl Williams  Rd 5 (142)
  Max Scharping  Rd 6 (201)
  L.J. Scott  Rd 7 (220)
  Winston Dimel Rd 7 (239)

every team wants Pass Rush, we are going to land 2 of the best free agent edge rushers? we will be lucky to get close to signing one.... your draft is an A plus, but no way White, Pratt, Ford are all going be draft way higher than your projection

I changed up the draft but will put it in the OP.  If you noticed I have us going after Smith as a priority signing but with Fowler he is a 1 yer deal so he can improve his stock after not getting what he wanted in a long term deal.  It happens to a few players every year.  Fowler is more likely to sign with the Rams but if a few pieces fall into place we could sign him.  He is the least likely of all the signings.  If the Rams prioritize other players (Suh, Joyner, Saffold, Peters, a LT not close to 40) he might not want to resign.  The Rams might have a hard time giving him the contract he wants also.  We on the other hand have the cap space and could make him a center piece of our defense.  We could also give him a lot more on the one year deal without an issue.

I have to agree with some others that it is a little too unrealistic, especially when it comes to the draft. I don't think White or Pratt should be mocked where you have them considering their current buzz--I'm also not a big fan of White. I also expect Humphries to sign for almost twice what you have him going for (I also expect him to re-sign in Tampa). Cook and James probably go for around $2 million more a year, each. The rest of the numbers seem okay.

I also think the draft and offseason leaves the team weak at receiver and somewhat weak at corner depending on Verrett's health (who I wouldn't sign to a long-term deal). I like bringing in Smith and I don't mind Fowler--I'm an advocate of settling as many starting roster spots before the draft.

Draft-wise, aside from White and Pratt who I won't discuss for reasons stated above, I don't mind Williams at 4 and think 27 is an ideal spot for a receiver, but Metcalf is probably not the receiver I would go for (I prefer Harry, Butler, or Ridley). Not a fan of going with Harris with Martin coming back. To me, Harris does not offer much more than Martin would as a starter. I think the team would be better off doing something else with the pick.
