Centurion
Like the title says. Basically, scenario, defense jumps offsides and you gain 9 on first down. Do you accept the penalty for 1st and 5 and the extra down? Or do you decline for 2nd and 1 for the shorter distance to go? Your avatar is freakin awesome dude I feel like it depends on how confident you are in your team. I think a team with a better offense would rather have 1st and 5 but a weaker team would prefer to be a couple yards farther along and closer to a first down even if it costs them a down
Malfatron
1st and 5. more downs.

Forge
I'd love to get some analytics showing which is more likely to keep a driving going. Personally, I'm leaning toward 2 & 1, I feel like an offense is more likely to keep a driving going with 2 chances to get 1 yard as opposed to 3 to get 5, but I could absolutely be wrong. jrry32
2nd and 1.
x0x
I'm sure the stats say it's easier to get a single yard in 2 plays than 5 yards in 3.

I would be curious about it too. I personally feel 2nd and 1 is better (assuming all things equal with field position, clock management etc). Of course going by typical OC (or at least Jaguars OC), they call run right up the gut using a predictable formation, gets stuffed and gets 3rd and 4 next lol

drew39k
I'll take 2nd and 1. Two plays for one yard. Plus I feel like it teases the d to move up in the box creating some opportunities for play action deep balls
AlNFL19
2nd and 1: need 0.5 yards per play. 1st and 5: need 1.667 yards per play. *Assuming a punt on fourth down I'll take 2nd and 1.
areksoo
If I'm a pass happy team with no run game and it happens in the redzone, I'd rather have the 1st & 5 to have more room to work with and extra down, but pretty much every other scenario, I'd rather have 2nd & 1. Danger
Depends if you are a better running team or passing team. If your passing game is better go 1st and 5. Running team go 2nd and 1, take a deep shot and then pick up a pretty reliable 3rd and 1 if you don't hit it deep.
Jlowe22
2nd and 1 all day. We’d go for it on fourth down anyway. If we can’t get a yard in 3 plays we deserve to punt.
