I think too often fans expect their OLBs to be flat out speed rush specialists. Dodd was brought in to bring more size and power to the position. The guy Robinson brought up immediately in comparison was Willie McGinest. McGinest was an outstanding all around defender,and a bigger OLB like Dodd, but even in his prime only averaged about 6.5 sacks a season. I still think Dodd can be that player. My expectation this year is 5 sacks in a rotational role. Eventually I hope to see him grow into Morgan's replacement by 2019. Also I'm amazed at the 'hot take' culture ESPN's talking heads have created. If a player isn't great right away, not only is he a bust, but everyone knew it from the moment the guy was drafted. Titans fan 617 Posted August 31, 2017 Share Posted August 31, 2017 I always root for our guys no matter what even if I didn't like the player and I never had an opinion about Dodd either way but I just want to start noticing the guy. I'm not asking for 10 sacks 5 picks or anything outrageous but be like a Karl Klug in the sense of he's not a starter he never has a ton of sacks but the guy makes plays and that's all I want from Dodd. Pressure the QB bat balls down at the line and be around the football or come up with a TFL once in a while reek some havoc be a factor on this defense. Its been a small sample size and it's been games that mean nothing but it's just sad we notice a rookie like Carroway before Dodd and that's not an indictment on Carroway it's that Dodds a 2nd round pick the coaches are given him every opportunity to make some plays but just hasn't grasped it yet. With all that said who knows what happens when it really counts the one thing I pointed out before is he missed some time last preseason and when he got to finally play vs Det in a real game he wasn't bad so hopefully when it counts he ramps it up but I can't wait for real football in 11 days when we kick off Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Of course people are going to bring up their pre-draft feelings when a guy is invisible when he's on the field, then deals with nagging injuries his entire rookie year. And then makes absolutely no impact while playing against backups all preseason. Add in that he's old for a second-year player and you're not going to get a lot of optimism surrounding the guy. Even some of the things mentioned in this thread (the idea of him adding 10-15 pounds and playing 5-tech) were things that were being brought up before we ever saw him play a down. It's not like people are using hindsight to complain about the pick, most of us are saying the same things we were saying when we wasted a top 35 pick on him. For comparisons sake, this upcoming season will be Jadeveon Clowney's age 24 season. In fact, Clowney is exactly 7 months younger than Dodd. Chandler Jones, who I compared Dodd to last April and is entering his sixth year in the league, is only 2 years older than 2nd year pro Dodd. Smh... I'm not really looking at last year with him being hurt. And yeah he hasn't shown anything in preseason but maybe he's just one of those guys who turns it on when it counts lol (I know Im reaching..)
