I think McCarthy is the most overrated HC is a long time

Jon Gruden was more responsible for the super bowl win in Tampa than Mike was in GB

Nah, McCarthy was a good HC, he just stayed like 3 years too long.

That said, I really like this move for the Browns.  Mayfield looked so much better under Kitchens that not keeping him would have been silly.  And Kitchens likely would have gotten hired away after next year if he wasn't HC.

Dunno for certain, but he was really well liked by the offensive guys in general and especially Baker.

Id imagine there was a concern that he’d get a HC gig next year and they’d be looking for a new OC and would like to keep some continuity with a young QB.

defense seems pumped too

You have to wonder how much of Baker and Cleveland's late season surge was more a product of a more generic 'anybody but Hue' bounce than something that Kitchens was doing specifically. But if they really do see something special in that connection between him and Baker, it makes sense to take that shot with him. Going from a RB coach to head coach in the span of a year is a big jump though, so a lot of his success will come down really to whether he's ready for it or not.

At the very least can't say the coaching hires this year have been dull.

Look at he stat @LETSGOBROWNIES stole from me and posted it in here before you

Its not like Freddie took a bad offense and just made them avg or above avg. yeah it’s only 8 games but the offense was literately elite. The Freddie Baker 8 game stretch was elite, top3 offense over that time span. Will it keep up? I doubt it but it Just shows your that Freddie was doing more than just play calling and scheming or if not he should be considered on the Sean McVay level. Just call him the Sean Mc- Hillbilly. He is the Browns southern boy country boy McVay. He will tell you every play that happen offensively but also remind you of the good and bad growing seasons when th corn was good and the cattle was strong. Then chug a stevewiser and give us all a hell yeah

Idk, the production was outstanding, as was Baker’s play.  Like top 3 offensive DVOA in the league post Hue.  Certainly seems like more than a “breath of fresh air”.

They seem to get along well, and apparently Baker was FaceTimed during the interview process.  He seems to be fully on board.

It is, but he’s been around football for 30 years, it’s not brain surgery.  Player, position coach at 3 positions, coordinator for a bit, etc..

You know what you can do with less than 30 years of experience and education?  Actual brain surgery.
