And who the hell do you suggest (a) calls the plays on offense? And (b) is the experienced HC that all rookie HC’s need by their side?

That's not my job.

Are people forgetting that the original plan was for Kubiak to take on a broader role and to hire a younger offensive mind?

You can’t celebrate Kubiak not getting the job unless there’s a better candidate you can name.

The Fangio era is off to an absolute disaster of a start here.

And now Fangio's going to have the audacity to pick his own OC! Disaster!

Fangio’s job is to run the defense and handle the media. He doesn’t know a thing about offensive football.

He’ll probably just pick one of his drinking buddies and end up having to fire him by Halloween.

Yeah, the best defensive coordinator in the league knows nothing about offenses. Good call.

Believe it or not, head coaches are usually responsible for filling out their entire staff. I know that's shocking, given Elway's tenure, but that's usually the case.

Fangio isn’t a real HC though. That’s not how the Broncos works. We have an OC and a DC and one of them is notionally given the title of HC, but really they operate completely independent and don’t really get involved on their “weak” side.

Fangio is purely a defensive guy.

Here’s the rub, Fangio was hired to be HC in name only. If Elway wanted a real HC we probably would have interviewed a different lot than we did. He was looking for a defensive mastermind with experience to handle the paperwork/media/corporate partner sschmoozing responsibilities of being a HC. Hence Fangio and his “death by inches” crap which sounds something a 2A high school coach would say.

Huh? Almost every head coach is either an offensive or defensive guy who lets the OC/DC run the show on their end. A small number of guys are CEO types. And that wasn't even the dynamic the last two years as Vance was the "CEO coach".

He's the head coach. You entrust him to put together a staff if you name him head coach. Period. It's like "damned if you do, damned if you don't" with some of you.
