The Batman not part of DCEU

Not really a great example, since one of the biggest gripes about the XMen cinematic universe is the incohesiveness and lack of continuity.     The XMen universe is already messed up in terms of continuity and Logan was largely a standalone film in the distant future.

Dont get me wrong....if they are saying "just make the movie and we'll sort out any possible continuity issues". then thats okay, as long as it doesnt veer too far away from the character and stories that have already been established.    BUT....that is completely different from saying its not part of the DCEU, which means it doesnt have any place within the events that unfold in that universe and is its own seperate thing.   If thats what happens, WB may as well just scrap the entire universe and either start over or just let it rest for awhile.

It almost seems like they MIGHT be taking the approach of their animated films.....meaning, maybe just making a bunch of movies that tell stories, but arent entirely connected.

Its too early to say anything for sure.   Im not very optimistic about the future of the DCEU anymore, though.   Just seems like they are out of touch with what fans want, or maybe its ego or plan old idiocy.     I dont know.

Eh, it's kinda hard to take a hardened stance on this. On one hand, it's rumored to be a prequel, in which case it doesn't need a definitive time stamp between any of the movies in the DCEU. Then again, that would make things like explaining how Bats developed his newfound aggressive antics totally pointless since I read this as "if it's not connected, then it didn't happen in The Batman's universe." The reason I say this is because WW was set so far apart from the other movies that it might as well be its own standalone movie, yet it's still considered part of the DCEU, so it just seems redundant to call it its own separate thing while still shaping the character as he appears in the DCEU (BvS and beyond).

Mind you, I haven't seen WW yet and don't wish to be spoiled, so I have no clue what relevance it has to the DCEU at large beyond her origin.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter has made a rare, but huge blunder. They’ve updated their story with the following correction: “An earlier version of this story stated that Matt Reeves’ The Batman was part of Warner Bros.’ new label and would star a new actor as Batman, but it is unclear where that project will fall.”

More fake news about DC that everyone falls for every week.

Reeves clarified.

Quote

“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN… In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.”

can we pls stop trying to make "fake news" a thing? Jesus.

but, in this particular instance, the gun was jumped. Granted, some amount of blame should be placed on Matt Reeves, as his statement is very, very easy to "misinterpret"

They could maybe get away with moving on from Ben because most of the franchise is centered around his costume and mask. But right now it would be suicide if they moved on from Cavill and Gadot.

Say what you want about MoS and BvS but Cavill's face is synonymous with DC right now. His face is on like a billion posters, lunch boxes, and all kinds of merchandise. They would kill they're revenue introducing others besides those two.

Hate to break it to you but it's already a thing. In reality and on the interwebz.

You mean to tell me, that people (here and everywhere else) took a comment completely out of context and interpreted to fit their own personal narrative? Specifically to bash the DC Universe that they already dont like? Color me shocked!

Once again, this doesnt mean a damn thing until we see how Justice League does. Because until then, not even DC knows what direction they are going in.

I did it.

I hate the DCEU as it is now and I saw what I wanted to see.

After Justice League, you'll be wishing for the same.  You can only polish up a turd so much.

Again they are basically reshooting the entire movie with joss whedon.  Jl will be fine.  The dceu got a shot in the arm with ww, jl will take it to the next level with whedon at the helm

I completely disagree.  You can't fix a bad movie with reshoots.  Name one movie that went with EXTENSIVE reshoots from a DIFFERENT director that  turned out to be a good movie.  The movie is going to by Snyder, and there's no way Whedon can fix everything that will have been wrong with Snyder's movie.

I mean, he cut Lex Luthor out of the movie. So that already makes it a little better.

Yeah, but think of everything they filmed for BvS.  Now ask yourself if reshoots could have made that a good movie.  Not complete character changes, but reshoots.  Six weeks worth I think it was for JL.
