Knowing now that Sweat dropped I personally take White at 4 and Sweat at 24.  It is not even close for me.  It would have been close but I still probably take White not knowing Sweat would drop.  I probably take Anthony Nelson as a mid rounder over Ferrell at 4.  I have to trust the team however I do not like the mind set that Allen is not good enough because he got pushed around sometimes.  These are college players and are going to have ups and downs.  We now have a couple athletic 3T and below average athletic edge players.

I wanted Allen and would have added Sweat @ 24. Ferrell and Sweat would have improved my overall view of our picks. I'm not big on 1st round Safeties so...

4)Ferrell OK Allen even at Sam would have made me happier.

24)Sweat I had above Ferrell after he didn't run at the combine and Sweat killed it.

27) Jacobs is good but I probably grabbed CB Greedy and 100% after trading down in the 2nd round twice.

I trust Mayock will get us quality football players and wanted solid picks his first go around. Sounds like Gruden wanted Jacobs @16 and if so, I'm glad Chucky has a trusted GM working it with him. Reggie would have just done whatever Gruden asked but I've got a feeling Mayock will be listened to more the first few years, especially if the picks pan out or players fall and get picked later.

That's why I love the Crosby selection so much, he may even be my favorite pick of the draft tbh. He is so advanced with his technique and hand usage AND is explosive. It's just his strength which is severely lacking.

Watching some of his YouTube videos it looks like his feet are never planted when he engages the OT.

A lot of the time 1 foot is not on the ground when is trying to use his hands, I think that has something  to do with him not being strong.

I have a thread on page 2 were you can post a post mock draft so we have a place to look back at everyone's choices after the season.  Every year we criticize the team for its choices and say what we would have done.  I am going to rename it Me vs Mayock.  You should post one there.  I would love to get everyone's choices so we can have a good discussion at years end.

PFF just recently made a run D rankings for the upcoming season.

We were placed at 27, which is the same spot we got during the 2018 season.

They said that while our front 7 will look different with the new additions, it won't necesseraly be better with guys like Burfict and Marshall.

I think they undervalue the facts that:
-Hurst and Hall will be 2nd year guys now in the middle. They will be stronger and the game will be slower for them.
-Ellis should play a lot more this year and he is a good run stopper. Him and Hankins should give us a good, fresh NT rotation.
-Our DE position got a lot better VS the run IMO. Mauro easily replaces Frostee's play and Ferrell should bring a big boost in Key's place as a base DE.
-While Marshall is not run stop specialist, he is a savy veteran, who can work effectively behind a solid DL IMO.
-Burfict wasn't strong last year against the run, but historically he was a solid/good run defender under PG, so if his body holds up, he can be a nice upgrade with his knowledge, experience
-The Joseph-Abram safety duo should be a really active run support unit and that could help a lot against the big runs.

Overall I expect our run D to get better and to be among the average units in 2019.

I think we'll have one of the better run D's in the NFL. Goal line and short yardage will dramatically improve.

We've got better talent at DB's but covering the TE will still eat us alive as it has for what seems like a decade. Our pass D will improve because of youth and speed but that also means big play mistakes. That can also mean big time plays getting the ball back. Will be interesting to see what happens but vet LB's and our depth at the dline will make stopping the run much better...

Yeah, he definitely needs to live in the weight room for the next year or two but his burst is very good. Should be able to be a decent rotational 3rd down rusher this season.

Why are you such optimistic about our run D?

We still have a well below average LB corp and too much is depending on the improvement of 2 young DT's and 3 young DE's IMO.

Young DTS are a year more experienced. LBS are definitely better than last year even if it's slightly. Burfict is the real question if we will be alot better at LB or slightly. Lee showed a lot of improvement, now add another year year in system. Also jelly will be added to rotation.

Ferrel is better than anyone we had last year as a complete end.

Run def should be 17-22

According to PFF, Mauro has been a good run defender in his career.

Quote

Since returning in Week 5, Mauro has been the #3 edge defender in the NFL against the run with an 81.6 Run-Defense Grade.

Quote

2016 4-3 DEs with the highest run stop % per @PFF 1. Brandon Graham 2. Sheldon Richardson 3. Josh Mauro 4. William Hayes 5. Mike Bennett

1st quote is for the 2018 season.

How can it not? The bar was set all-time low. Even for Raider standards.

And this is why I think he might end up being the starting/base LDE for us. Ferrell should start at RDE and then they can move Ferrell, Key, Mayowa and Crosby around on 3rd downs...

That's how i see it too. Ferrell - Hankins - Hurst - Mauro in the base. No idea what Crosby can provide as a rookie but Mayowa and Key should share snaps in the nickel.
