Raiders Defense

I could kind of understand if Guenther was considered some defensive guru that had built elite defenses in the past, but neither of those are the case. He had some success in Cincinnati but you can also make a case that he inherited the best defense in the league when they took over and they took a significant step back from one year to the next with the same personnel and the only real change being Guenther at DC instead of Zimmer.

But apparently Guenther's scheme is built around having defensive linemen that can't rush the passer and bigger safeties regardless if they can cover or not.

At this point, Taylor Mays or George Illoka would be upgrades on Harris. Domata Peko still available?

No excuses to not know Guenther's system at least.

In our last 9 games we've given up 357 ypg and 28.7 ppg and have only recorded 10 sacks and forced 5 turnovers. Guenther has got to go.

Guess you were right.... when you kept pumping Gruden’s quote “we’ll go as far as Collins takes us”,... too bad it ain’t very far.

seriously though were not THAT good on offense we can win inspite of the defense.

I guess. But Littleton played ILB with the Rams and we're playing him at OLB even with Kwit out.

...

Cory Littleton - Very good ILB with the Rams so we only play him at SLB.

But hey, at least we're able to operate his scheme...

The alternate is Cory Littleton, the guy we just gave one of the biggest LB contracts in NFL history too. We only play with 3 LB's like 15-20% of the time.

So we only play with 3 Lb’s 15-20% of the time so how is it that we are playing Littleton ‘only at SLB’ ?

The Rams base scheme was a 3-4, but equally they were in nickel a significant amount of time, so Littleton’s role would be the same in nickel as it is now, wouldn’t it?

We have 4 sacks and 2 takeaways through the first 4 games of the season, yikes.

We're on pace to give up 30 ppg which would be the most we've ever given up in a single season.

In the 40 seasons before Guenther got here we had given up 25+ ppg only 5 times. While we've given up 25+ ppg in each of his three years here.

As our defensive coordinator.

Ken Norton Jr (42 games): 369 ypg, 24.5 ppg, 67 sacks (1.59 pg), 61 takeaways (1.45 pg) | 23-19 record (.547)

Paul Guenther (36 games):  370 ypg, 27.9 ppg, 49 sacks (1.36 pg), 34 takeaways (0.94 pg) | 13-23 record (.361)

Can you pull up John Pagano? I thought he did a decent job.

So on average with Guenther including projections for 2020 you're allowing: 5,925 yards, 448 points, 22 sacks, 15 takeaways.

And over the last 5 years those numbers would rank (by year)

2019 - yards (23rd), points (28th), sacks (32nd), turnovers (31st)

2018 - yards (23rd), points (29th), sacks (31st), turnovers (30th)

2017 - yards (30th), points (32nd), sacks (32nd) , turnovers (29th)

2016 - yards (24th), points (29th), sacks (32nd), turnovers (27th)

2015 - yards (23rd), points (30th), sacks (32nd), turnovers (29th)
