x0x
This is a record that I have been fascinated by, only amplified by the rise of total offense in the NFL with most recently Maholmes notching 5,000 and 50. Norm Van Brocklin set the record way back in September of 1951. At the time the mark was ludicrous breaking Johnny Lujack's previous mark of 468. However since then the 500 mark has been passed 21 times and yet has ranged from 503 to 527 which despite being one long throw away has kept clear out in front. In just the last 10 seasons, it's been done 13 times with Matt Schaub coming closest at 527 in 2012. So I wonder, not will it ever be broken (going on 68 years) but when? Or is it maybe some sacred homage to Brocklin that unless it's absolutely necessary no coach will actively go for it? The Schaub game was close ending 43-37. Boomer Esiason at 522 got his team the win in OT. But Roethlisberger in 2014 and Moon in 1990 were fairly comfortable margins. Then of course there's Brady 505 yards in the freaking Super Bowl. So maybe it'll happen in a playoff game.

Xmad
Like Nick Foles randomly throwing 7 TDs out of nowhere off the bench, it will happen randomly against a team no one expected to get blown out that badly.

Everything broke right for Schaub that day...
Raves
It's going to happen in 2021 with Trevor Lawrence, rookie QB for the New Orleans Saints, throwing for 560 yards, 8 TDs, 0 INTs enroute to a Super Bowl victory in his rookie year.
