Scalamania
Josh Allen is trash - however, he won't be available outside of the top ten and there's zero chance he falls to the mid 20s.
Phire
I'm not saying Rosen or Darnold won't be good but they're far from a sure thing. And I'm not just trying to bash them because Carson was the same way, and we know how that turned out thus far. These aren't your generational QB talents. They'll need to be developed. No matter how different JuJu Smith-Schuster is from Agholor he's still going to be trash! Forget evaluating the actual player, go purely off the past. I like it. WAIT - you actually scout the player and don't focus on what school they went to? FOH man - ya'll wild.

No quarterback is a sure thing anymore or generational talent. Winston and Mariota were sure things while Goff and Wentz were projects and look how that turned out. It all depends on the situation they land in and the staff put around them.

I wouldn't say they don't exist anymore, there just haven't been as many developing in college, and different people viewing the same guy differently. Wentz is an intriguing case study because someone in Cleveland thought he would never succeed but if you ask Howie Roseman they considered him a generational talent and a sure thing. Andrew Luck was close to a sure thing just a few years ago, don't think his injuries take that away from him. Cam Newton (#1 overall 2011), Matt Stafford (#1 overall 2009), and Matt Ryan (#3 overall 2008) were all guys that were arguably at least in the discussion of being sure-things. Winston was, to a lot of people, a generational can't miss talent. The way college offenses are currently being run doesn't translate to the NFL most of the time. You have these guys that come from these wide open offenses who have no idea how to read a defense or how to make adjustments on the fly and then you have the RPO quarterbacks who haven't developed as passers. Neither of these types have worked out in the NFL up to this point. I just don't think there's going to be a sure thing at quarterback in CFB for a long time simply because the systematic difference between CFB and the NFL. Also, Cam Newton was never a sure thing - a lot of people thought he would bust.

It was a banner/vindication year for USC WR's, but let's not pretend these guys are #1's either. Most of them are excelling in the slot. Darnold is nothing special. Browns need Rosen or Cousins. Darnold has a face shape that's rarely successful in the NFL, on top of having the last name Darnold, which already sounds destined for failure. "Down goes Darnold!" rolls off the tongue way too easily. He's going to be Andy Dalton at best.

Mariota was definitely no sure thing coming from the Oregon O and usually having his 1st or 2nd read open at all times.

There is zero pop in his hands. He needs to do a bunch of plyometric push ups and take boxing lessons, because he could be really good if he ever does gain some explosion in his hands. Very fluid movements and light on his feet for a big man.

I just figured my response should have enough actual analysis of the player as yours did. I think we were about even.
