Yep, salary reduced by $2.9 mil to $4 mil.  Cap cost now $5.6 mil with $2.5 mil in ULTBE bonuses and incentives to be earned but if earned would be charged against 2020 cap.  No new money but team option for 2020 and 2021 has been terminated when he can become a FA.

So basically created the rookie pool with this restructure...smart move all round.

Essentially it has which frees up a little more cap space to use now since the rookie contracts won't be signed 'til May and even then quite possibly only our 3rd round pick would count against the top 51 cap hits which means about $900k.

Pace is creating a little more breathing space and he could create more if he needs it.  What I'm wondering is something imminent which would be either Callahan or Amos or is he just taking care of business cap wise one step at a time.?

This was way more team friendly than I was expecting with Long.

He can earn the money back in bonuses and the Bears do not really care about a shortened deal he was not going to be here in 2021 anyway.

Very team friendly.

Can end all speculation of Long leaving in 2019.

C'mon stay healthy.

Yeah, you kinda got your wish.  No new money and no extension.  In fact it now a year shorter deal.

Who know what 2021 will bring?  What we do know is we won't have an $8.9 mil cap hit listed next to Kyle's name.

The big window is 2019-2020 anyway so provided he's playing well we'll have the OL intact through that cycle.

Kyle not only has to stay healthy he has to play better than he has of late.

He was very up and down last year and didn't play well in his last game.  In his defense it is hard to be at top of your game at highest level of anything while injured and without offseason training and prep.

Still it is what it is whatever the reason, he hasn't been that good or available for much of time lately.

I don't believe he is having any offseason surgeries this year so maybe he can finally recover a bit, get a full offseason regime in and play closer to a top NFL guard.

I believe that's the reason for his agreed upon salary reduction and it's replacement with $2.5 mil of ULTBE bonuses which is something I'd posted about before.  I actually thought that would be the best way to see that he does get paid if healthy and productive and shift some cap to 2020 if it's earned.

The other benefit to us is he also agreed to a team option for 2020 in exchange for having his final year terminated so he's really on a one year deal now and truly betting on himself.   Personally I think it's a bet he wins and that 2019 could be one of his best years.  We know he'd love to win a SB ring as a Bear.
