MikeT14
Is Bryce Perkins really a 5th round value as a QB?

I've been reading these weekly and have seen the couple of times you wrote about him. I should have been more specific on where he was missing from. I updated that list now with the most recent guys I could recall who have declared and any I did miss. Tried to include some I moved out on the list below but sure I forgot some. For most the year I did consider Justin Jefferson as a guy who would return to school but with how great he has played I doubt that happens anymore. 8 hours ago, MikeT14 said: Is Bryce Perkins really a 5th round value as a QB? I would say the list of quarterbacks might got like this but Fromm could be easily returning to school. Perkins is a better leader and winner than Montez and Tate. He has more upside than Huntley but they have similar games, he has more athletic ability than Lewerke and again is a better winner and leader than Gordon and or Francois. Joe Burrow LSU RS SR QB Tua Tagovailoa Alabama JR QB Justin Herbert Oregon SR QB Jacob Eason Washington RS JR QB Jordan Love Utah State RS JR QB Jake Fromm Georgia JR QB Shea Patterson Michigan SR QB Jalen Hurts Oklahoma QB Nathan Stanley Iowa SR QB Bryce Perkins Virginia SR QB Steven Montez Colorado RS SR QB Khalil Tate Arizona SR QB Tyler Huntley Utah SR QB Brian Lewerke Michigan State RS SR QB Anthony Gordon Washington State RS SR QB Deondre Francois Hampton RS SR QB At first this year I did not think he was going to be a drafted QB. But he played pretty well this year I thought against good competition in big games. Looked very good in the bowl game against Florida, obviously played well against VT, showed he is a great competitor against Clemson late I thought in the title game. The kid to me has really grew as a passer this year and was not just a runner first. He did not have great receivers to pass to or much of a run game at all or a great OL either. But kid won some big games and showed fine leadership so I think he has a chance at the next level. Sure might not be a 5th rounder but at worst should get picked up in the 6th or 7th round. But how the QBs look again I would not take Montez, Tate, Huntley, Lewerke, Gordon or Francois over him. Maybe Montez but again Perkins was a winner and lead his teams to winning games, Montez never did that with more talent around him and more size and overall talent arguably. Perkins is a gamer and has a chance to be a solid backup for a team and great locker room guy.
Ozzy
Updated the 7 round ranking with the recent underclassman that have come and gone. As far as I can tell here are the guys who have not declared yet, most are on LSU and Clemson of course. I did not include Austin Jackson from USC because I think he is returning but he could declare as well potentially. Underclassman that have not declared but could come out potentially. The rest I see as all coming out for the draft and would be very surprised if they do not. I am sure the NFL hopes a guy like Tristan Wirfs comes out, they are in desperate need for OL talent in the league and this guy looks like a freak show athletically. Have a four rounder already in the works for 2021 soon to expand once all the underclassmen declare or not. jetskid007
Appreciate all the hard work. One comment on the draft: there is no way the Jets wait until pick 79 to draft their first OL. GM Joe Douglas has made it clear that the team will prioritize the position both in FA and the draft. As far as round 1, drafting a WR appears to be on the back-burner. Daniel Jeremiah (who is tight with JD) has tweeted emphatically that the Jets won't do it, instead, suggesting they will prioritize OL/EDGE above all other positions. I think the team will address WR in day 2, possibly with multiple selections, but not in round 1.

But who they take when Wirfs, Thomas and Willis are gone? Those are the ideal, that or Biadasz but I have him being gone as well by that Jets 1st pick. Sure Chaisson but I would be more comfortable with a guy like Uche 2nd round than Chaisson that high in the 1st. And Jeudy would be a flat out steal at that point and they need more legit weapons I feel on offense unless they think Demaryius Thomas is going to round back to form, but he and Anderson are free agents so if they do not bring them back they will absolutely need a WR. But yeah I agree OL is a huge need but if those guys I mentioned are gone, not sure it is smart to pick Mekhi Becton, Austin Jackson or Trey Adams that high. Obviously you're basing your mock off your board, which I totally understand, but word is that NFL circles are much higher on Mekhi Becton than the media. Apparently, he's a top 10 lock. Apparently, he's a top 10 lock. Yeah any OL that is his massive size and shows any athletic ability at all will be drafted high and sometimes overrated at times. Look at Kolton Miller a few years back, also helps that OL is at an absolute premium in the NFL based on lack of quality guys around the league. Not sure Becton will even perform at the combine though sadly but would be interesting to see how he times out and everything but my guess is he does not run. But Jawaan Taylor got similar hype last year going into the draft, is a stronger, thicker dude than Becton but not as good in pass pro and not as athletic so he did end up being more a 2nd rounder after being projected top 20 by some. Becton does seem a little thin in the lower body around his feet and even his arms/hands seem a little small for his size. Ereck Flowers is another that got drafted on athletic upside as a big body. Will be curious how Becton works individually, hard to get a read on him in that offense with all that misdirection and gimmick type plays, not many pure drop back pass blocking sets did he have to even do honestly. He over runs the play at times but at least he is athletic enough to do it which is a positive. Orlando Brown Jr dropped of course because of a poor combine, I had him as a 1st rounder and I think he has played up to that as a pro being a starter and a good tackle regardless of his poor vertical or 40. Becton is interesting though and if any OT rises out of that second group it could be him.
Ozzy
All Star game standouts: *Josh Uche Michigan SR OLB: The dude looked great out there, could be a 1st round pick after that performance. Loved him this season on Michigan and the kid can simply play, very athletic, strong at the point of attack and has a fine power/speed combo. Was a terror all game, only negative is he literally let the QB go a few times as if he was in a scrimmage, but still the kid did get home. *Darius Anderson TCU SR RB: Was very smooth out there, great catching the football and just glided in the open field. I was kind of down on him this year, I expected a little more out of him but kid can play and as a mid to late round RB he could be very good potentially. Real breakout game for him that put him back on the map no question. *Michael Ojemudia Iowa RS SR CB: I was never super impressed with him at Iowa but in this game he really stood out as a tackler coming off the edge at corner. Physically he is well put together, good strength and nice arm length and size. Very good game by him though, could be a good mid round value at corner, and with his build maybe could switch to safety possibly but he can hang as a press man corner. *Alton Robinson Syracuse SR DE: Big time rush end and had a standout game and made some dudes look pretty bad. Very promising kid and could maybe be a 3/4 OLB or a 4/3 DE. Stood out and did well this game for sure. *Tony Pride Jr Notre Dame JR CB: Loved his play in this game, very smooth natural corner with good footwork and quickness. Was never super impressed with him at Notre Dame for whatever reason but in this setting he stood out and looked the part as a solid cover corner. *Jalen Reagor TCU JR WR: Damn that kid is a great looking athlete, did not have a real standout year for TCU this season but wow that kid is put together and hyper athletic. Strong and fast, great burst. Is a real standout and should do some great things at the combine potentially. *Joshua Kelley UCLA RS SR RB: Showed great leg drive, vision and power in this game. Helped himself big time and showed out well. Great mid round value potentially, has always been a strong runner but kid has some great feet and plays the game the right way, very interesting prospect. *Lamical Perine Florida SR RB: Tough RB, finished the season strong and looked good in this game as well. Good power and leg drive, has decent explosive ability out of the backfield and nice vision. Has had a up and down career overall but has finished strong no question. *Evan Weaver Cal SR ILB: Sure the negative about him in coverage but he is such a strong tough linebacker that is smart. Might fall in the draft, I had him as a 1st rounder in February last year and since dropped him at the end of this season to 2nd rounder. But kid can play and in the right system will do just fine. *Josh Jones Houston RS SR OT: Looked good in this game, did get beat a few times but nothing major. Still want to see him at the combine but was not overwhelmed at OT like some of the others in this game. *Denzel Mims Baylor SR WR: Looked very fast and explosive in the game, nice athletic ability and with his length and size he is a great speed size combo. Good big play threat and jump ball threat and built off the fine season he had this year with a good Senior Bowl. *Shea Patterson Michigan SR QB: Some thought he played bad but I really liked his mobility in the pocket and ability to throw on the move. Sure made a bad throw or two but can create outside the pocket, get away from trouble and has a quick release. If given time to develop as a backup and learn to protect the football better he could become a solid development/backup QB in the NFL. *Bradlee Anae Utah SR DE/OLB: Great game by him and played really well using his hands to get off blocks and get after the QB. Was pretty surprised by his production at this higher level of play but he looked the part no doubt. And in a class that is some what weak at 3/4 OLB he could become a wanted player and maybe even sneak into the 2nd round possibly. *Harrison Bryant FAU SR TE: Has the size and athletic ability for sure, nice natural pass catcher who can run very well and catches the football easily. I might have him a little underrated, if he runs well at the combine he could for sure be a 2nd rounder if not higher. Looks the part no doubt. *Lloyd Cushenberry LSU JR OG/C: Looked good in the game I thought, I still think he should switch to OG because of his wide base and power at the point of attack. But played well inside and for sure will be a mid round pick but could go higher potentially than that. Has struggled at times this year in pass pro though so OG could easily be in his future at the next level. *Justin Herbert Oregon SR QB: Showed up and played well when he was in there I thought. Showed his athletic ability and is arm talent, sure there are things to work on but with his size and athletic ability it is hard to not like him long term with his ability to create outside and inside the pocket. *Jonah Jackson Ohio State SR OG: Played well and was strong at the point of attack. Had a great season and to me is the best OG in the draft potentially. *Van Jefferson Florida SR WR: Such a natural pass catcher, very smooth and has good hands and great feet. Should have been much more productive at Florida but the kid can play and could be a nice 3rd or 4th receiver in the NFL. *Quartney Davis Texas A&M JR WR: Showed good quickness and burst I thought, good acceleration and footwork as well. Nice looking receiver and should be a solid mid round pickup with good potential in the slot especially. *Darrion Daniels Nebraska SR NT: I had him as a drafted player this year based on his fine play and he did not disappoint in this game. Big dude and move and get penetration, should be a solid late round pick. *Charlie Woerner Georgia SR TE: Played great and showed really fine pass catching ability I thought. Was smooth out there, natural hands and maybe he was just not highlighted enough at Georgia. For sure will be drafted I feel with his blocking and pass catching ability. *Salvon Ahmed Washington JR RB: Catching the football he looks great, such a natural receiver. Would be surprised to see him drafted highly but kid can play and as a 3rd down back with pass catching skills he is very interesting. *Matt Peart UCONN RS SR OT: Worth watching some more, did not get beat like some of the other tackles in that game. Good athletic ability and strength with good potential down the road, should be a nice mid round pick. Others who impressed: Kenny Willekes Michigan State RS SR DE Michael Onwenu Michigan SR OG Jordan Love Utah State RS JR QB Devin Duvernay Texas SR WR Lamar Jackson Nebraska SR CB James Proche SMU RS SR WR TJ Brunson South Carolina SR LB Logan Stenberg Kentucky RS SR OG Disappointed: Terrence Steele Texas Tech RS SR OT - Did not play well and got beat pretty consistently on the edge. Still might be drafted possibly but struggled in this one for sure and looked over matched. Calvin Throckmorton Oregon SR OG/OT - Disappointed by his play no doubt, have never loved him at OT and he struggled with it in this game and against power. Is more a OG I feel at the next level but his versatility does make him interesting. But this was not his day, did not look good at the Senior bowl. Steven Montez Colorado RS SR QB - Not super impressed with his play, athletically he will get picked up based on his size and athletic potential. But he has a long ways to go still and is for sure a developmental QB. Jalen Hurts Oklahoma QB - Did some things with his feet and made some ok scramble throws but nothing amazing. Did get pressured a crazy amount so that did not help. But did not look the part of a future star QB. Great backup potential but if any team takes him in the 1st round it would be a mistake. Ozzy
Updated the 7 round mock draft ranking, a few players new to the list and a few players taken out. Some new additions to the draft ranking: *Jeremy Chinn SR S Southern Illinois: Physically he is crazy impressive, 6-3 safety that is well built and moved pretty solid in the field drills. Going to have to watch him more, if he has legit coverage ability at that size he will be very interesting and no way gets out of the 2nd or 3rd round. *Adam Trautman RS SR TE Dayton: I loved how he moved out there, physically well build and put together but has fine short space quickness and awesome hands. Going to have to watch him more but is one of my favorite TEs now, such a natural pass catcher and should be gone 2nd round potentially. *Kyle Dugger SR S Lenoir-Rhyne: Honestly he kind of disappointed with the hype he got, all the 4.3 talk he did, but did wow in the vertical and broad jump, he has big hands, long arms and physically looks impressive no doubt. Ball skills seemed to be lacking at least in the field drills but kid looks solid, maybe he was not not comfortable on that stage could have hurt his performance a little who knows. *Jack Driscoll SR OT/OG Auburn: Loved how he moved laterally, big strong kid and ran well for his size, going to have to go back and watch him some more he can play and look great physically. Could be a OG at the next level potentially, never was sold on him as a OT but he sure did move laterally well in the drills. *Alex Taylor SR OT South Carolina State: Super long OT with a great wingspan, going to have to watch him more but he for sure looked like a OT who could be drafted. Huge wingspan and I believe has the longest arms and biggest hands at the combine, also beat Becton in the 40 but is over 50 pounds lighter of course. *Khalil Davis SR DE/DT Nebraska: Did have some impressive production this year and I am going to have to go back and watch him more. He did amazing at the combine for a big dude and could be a fine 4/3 DT or potential 3/4 DE. Made him some money no question and will for sure be drafted after his performance. Always thought his twin brother was the better player, maybe not. *Alex Highsmith RS SR OLB/DE Charlotte: Going to have to go back and watch him more but kid can motor and is very good in space. Could be a fine 3/4 OLB with his mobility and athletic ability overall. Good size and strength and could be a speeder come draft time. *Matt Hennessy SR C Temple: Very agile and athletic center, good moving laterally and he did impress for sure. In the right system he could do great things especially in a zone blocking scheme that uses a lot of motion. *Azur Kamara SR OLB Kansas: Physically he is impressive and just on that alone he could be drafted. Looks the part, big long kid who is strong and well built, has a chance athletically no question. *Daniel Thomas SR S Auburn: Never really stood out to me during the season, but physically he put up some good numbers as a thick strong safety type no doubt. Could be a hybrid LB/S but physically he performed at the combine and did well for himself. *Trishton Jackson RS JR WR Syracuse: I like his motor as a receiver, good runner in the open field and has good drive to him. Could be a decent mid to late round pick at receiver. Most impressive at the combine: Overall Wirfs to me stood out the most in terms of how he looked physically, how he ran and just overall how rare his performance was. Was a little disappointed by his bench but other than that kid looked great and his lower leg power is insane. Then again not a huge surprise I thought he was going to do great at the combine and did, all the talk of him as a OG, sure he could do it but come on kid is an athlete and could be a great RT or LT. Tristan Wirfs Neville Gallimore Jedrick Wills Mekhi Becton Jonathan Taylor Antoine Winfield Jr Willie Gay Jr Jordan Love Justin Madubuike Cam Akers AJ Dillon Denzel Mims Chase Claypool Tanner Muse Isaiah Wilson Brandon Aiyuk Albert Okwuegbunam Ezra Cleveland Cesar Ruiz Jabari Zuniga Khaleke Hudson Carter Coughlin Jeff Okudah CJ Henderson Alton Robinson Malcolm Roach Josiah Scott AJ Terrell Josh Metellus Isaiah Simmons was crazy impressive no doubt but wish he could have done the field drills but that would not have been fair, especially against all those linebackers. To those that love Javelin Guidry because of that 40 time, he is a track guy and watching Utah and that defense this year he rarely stood out honestly. And when Blackmon was out of the game and or Johnson at CB they struggled big time and Guidry could not hang as the main cover corner. Guys who disappointed: Laviska Shenault Jr. - apparently was injured or got injured but clearly did not impressed in that run at all, and all this talk about being a great wildcat QB, these people watch Lynn Bowden? Apparently not, that is a WR who can run as a wild cat QB, not freaking Shenault who was pretty fraile this year a times but hopefully he can get healthy and that was the reason why. Trey Adams - athletically I thought he would look better than he did. For sure is dropping after that showing. Justin Herbert - athletically he looked fine but throwing he did not impress. His accuracy was so so and his overall touch seemed a little slow and measured. Good kid but yeah his persona is questionable, not really a leader or super confident out there AJ Epenesa - athletically I thought he would have done much better in the 40, bench and vertical and show more explosive ability but did not, however on the field he plays fast as a rusher at least. Evan Weaver - not a huge surprise but yeah athletically he did not look the part. Still not an awful time but this type of event is just not for him at all, still in the right system he could do just fine. Geno Stone - thought he would be more physical than that, did not work out that strong in the bench and did not do great in the field drills. He is more a hitter though and hard to show that just running. Quinetz Cephus - that was a surprisingly bad time he ran, especially for a deep ball threat like him. Maybe all that production was all the focus on the run game and not his speed. Still he is a talented pass catcher but you take away his deep threat ability he is a different type player then. See if he can improve on it, maybe it was just a bad run.
