Nebraska RB Charged with Child Porn

Since there’s no longer a Misc. News thread and this needs to be discussed, it’s getting its own thread.

The TLDR version of the article is that Maurice Washington, Nebraska’s #2 RB who had 650 scrimmage yards this year, was charged with possession of child pornography and revenge pornography after sending the victim a copy of the video. Nebraska knew about the investigation during the fall but let him continue playing anyway.

Is this a potentially fireable offense for Scott Frost if he knew about the investigation and continued playing Washington?  The answer is yes IMO.

Really bad look for Nebraska and Scott Frost. IF they knew, they're both about to pay dearly. Not to downplay the fiasco at Baylor, but the optics on this is going to make Baylor look like a simple quarrel. In Baylor's case, you're always going to have debate over sexual assault- what it is, who is at fault under specific circumstances, etc. There is no debate over child porn, especially once labeled as such. I haven't read up on it yet, but I could see the "child" being a 17 yr old ex girlfriend to an 18, 19 year old freshman or something. Although this wouldn't necessarily condone it, it's much easier to spin for a jury if "Nebraska player charged with sexual assault/Nebraska player charged with unlawful pornography with ex girlfriend/etc." than "Nebraska RB charged with Child Pornography".

Simply put, it's about to get really ugly, and rightfully so.

Edit: read the article. This moron is screwed.

While I personally agree, colleges across the country have had some sort of sex scandal fiasco. But the reality is that campus sex assaults almost always become a finger pointing ordeal with skeptics referencing everything from "they were both drunk" to "she saw stars and money in the future". While this certainly doesn't make it ok, it makes things generally arguable.

Someone reaching out to a minor victim with a pornographic video of said victim captioned with "remember this, hoe?" isn't even arguable. There's no defense that one could even begin to raise.

A jury might waver on whether or not there was consent between two adults in a college campus. A video of a 15 year old used to intimidate and harass the victim isn't something a jury would question given the scenario we have here.

As unfortunate as it is, rape is almost always debated. Kiddie porn? Naw. If Nebraska/Frost knew, the hammer coming down is gonna be worse than what Baylor got.

Friendly reminder that nothing happened to Baylor.

It's also an ongoing matter as the NCAA investigation didn't exactly wrap up until October 2018. While the athletic program may get off with a wrist slap, the university as a whole is probably going to wind up paying dearly in one way or another.

I suppose a better comparison would be Penn State. Only, working against Nebraska is the existence of a video.

this is one player making the program look extremely bad. Baylor had a handful of players over a few years.
