They swapped out Haha and added Amos.

Swapped out Mathews and Perry and added Smiths.

And they are paying more.

Not really much of an upgrade overall, arguably it isn't one.  They have more depth and guys in prime now on outside.  But it's not like those guys are world beaters you have to game plan around.

I changed my mind on this.  Perry has been largely absent and Matthews played poorly after early games when he was (unfairly) flagged for roughing.  So it is a big upgrade for them on outside.

I don't know that Amos over HaHa is upgrade they think it is though.  Haha was a little disgruntled and that may have effected his play some.

Also you look better with better players around you.   I think he is probably the more talented of the two and could play better in a better situation.

Packers fans are all over twitter and forum saying they really hope Bears pick up Dix.

They really think this guy is a bum.  Going to have to watch him tonight if no news today.

Packer fans are at their worst when evaluating a guy like Ha Ha who just wanted to get the hell outta GB period.

No doubt it was impacting his play and he admitted it publicly last fall saying he knew he wouldn't be back.  That's what got him traded.

Now, flip that coin over.  He wants to play with Jackson in Chicago.  He even turned down more money to do it and signed a one year deal for a fraction of the MV Spotrac assigned him.  I'd say $3.5 mil for the best Safety still available is a steal.

He's motivated and he's willing to be on himself earning more by signing next year.  Tough for us to lose under these circumstances.

No question it was a steal.

He plays mostly Jackson's position.  Going to be real interesting to seem him up more.

Warning he is not a physical player.

He is way faster and has way better hands than Amos.    Bears D just got faster assuming he starts.

Going to be some give and take though.  I think bigger receivers, backs and TEs are going to catch ball in front of him and he isn't going to make that jarring hit that may result in incompletion and no one is going to fear his hits nor should they.

He is going to cost you some in physicality, but he is going to make up for it in turnovers.  He will punish errant throws and covers a lot more ground than Amos could.

Agreed, and his college scouting report does emphasize that.  But it also indicates he's a sure tackler with decent run support.

It also emphasizes his instincts, playing speed, and his hands as you point out.  So he's very different than Amos in his style but Pace has been pushing us to get faster and to create more turnovers.  So we gain there and I have to think with he and Jackson patrolling the seams and middle our exposure in those zones will improve.

Bush is a better in the box banger with some speed but not much in coverage and we have this kid Josh Woods who was a college Safety we seem to be developing as a Deonne Buchanan kind of hybrid LB/SS so we may see more variation in our personnel groupings at times and HHC-D playing as a Slot CB or a Dime Safety.

With Pagano taking over the defense and tending to be more aggressive in his approach than Fangio having some specialist type DBs may work out just fine.  I know that with HHC-D I feel we have much better depth now at FS in the event that Jackson is injured and we have the vet competition we needed to push Bush and maybe Skrine as well since Ha Ha could probably handle Slot CB too.

No time to read it all but this much I can say.

Mack helped us more than he would have helped GB.  We had most of our defense set and Mack was a guy who could push us over the top.  That would not have been the case with GB and it seems a few of their posters correctly identified that.

Our window is open now whereas they need to draft better and reopen theirs.  Mack alone would not have solved all of their needs.

The Pack is definitely on the way down to the cellar. Erin only has 3 or 4 years left in the tank if that much. They need to hit on their 2 1st rounders this year.

  • 4 weeks later...

With the $105 million deal done @dallascowboys DeMarcus Lawrence is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday. "I can't put a timetable on how long it's going to take me to recover from the surgery, but I should be back before the beginning of the season."

This would piss me off if I was a Cowboy's fan.
